THE ELECTRIC PRUNES - Mass In F Minor ORIG Reprise LP RLP 6275 (UK, Mono, 1968)
Happy to present the 2nd UK Prunes album, effectively not an Electric Prunes LP at all, more of a David Axelrod directed psychedelic mass in 6 parts. The whole thing was written and arranged by him although there are photos of The Prunes all over the back sleeve.
This is a great copy, the sharp, flat medium weight vinyl looks barely touched on first inspection. Under bright light there are a handful of ultra light wispy hairlines and paper scuffs, there‘s one or two other small marks. Maintains near to maximum shine and visually grades a proper VG+ (Very Good Plus) not trashed and the sort of disc that is often graded as excellent. Has been listened to and from my test play there were no loud pops, no hiss, snap nor discernible crackle. Played with no distortion or loss of clarity.
The Reprise tri-colour steamboat ‘Pop Series’ labels have no writing, no stickers, residue, tears or damage. There are mild spindle traces to either side, showing the disc has been lightly, but not over played.
The front-laminated, tri-flipback, single format sleeve was made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd and is a pleasing example with a particularly fresh rear panel (hardly any toning). The edges are superb as new with the ‘pinched’ spine also in spectacular full-definition state. The front shows around a half-dozen ‘thumb’ creases a light crease top right and at the bottom left two heavier creases which have lifted the laminate in this area. These apart, it’s still more than solid and except for the careless creases is a pleasing example with all four corners good, no real ring impression, next to no feathering and no staining or rippling. There is an ultra faint number written in pencil top rear right. Overall a Genuine VG+ (Very Good Plus), all there with good colour.
No one does Psychedelic Strings like Axelrod and this is a serious LP for a journey to the ‘other’ side. No reserve.
