Here is a rare, unique, and sought-after holiday gift for the Elvis Presley vinyl record collector on your holiday list!! It is a 1977 PROMO ONLY 45 rpm record containing mono and stereo versions of Elvis' 1974 live recording of the Olivia Newton-John tune titled 'Let Me Be There', RCA Records catalog number JH-10951. I recently obtained two copies of this impossibly rare 45 from a friend who in 1977 was the Program Director of a rock-n-roll radio station in a major U.S. market, and who obtained these two records in 1977 directly from Al Gallico of Al Gallico Music Corp., the music publisher who owned the publishing rights to the song 'Let Me Be There'. As the story goes, this live version of 'Let Me Be There' first appeared on the early pressings of the Elvis Presley LP titled 'Elvis As Recorded Live on Stage In Memphis', and was pulled from later pressings of that LP. Publisher Al Gallico felt that this recording of 'Let Me Be There' had great potential to become a hit single, so he had 2000 promotional copies of this 45 pressed by RCA Records to distribute to radio stations nationwide for airplay to see if the song would catch on with listeners and enter the nationwide charts. However, RCA informed Mr. Gallico that they had plans to include this version of 'Let Me Be There' on Elvis' upcoming LP 'Moody Blue' and therefore would not be releasing this track as a single. As a result there were NO COMMERCIALLY RELEASED COPIES OF THIS 45, AND THE 2000 AL GALLICO PROMO COPIES ARE THE ONLY EXISTING 45s CONTAINING ELVIS' LIVE VERSION OF 'LET ME BE THERE'.
I have graded the condition of this record as VG+ due to two minor condition flaws - Record has what appears to be a very small 3/8" SUBSURFACE crack at its outer edge which is UNDERNEATH THE PLAY SURFACE ON BOTH SIDES, CANNOT BE FELT ON EITHER SIDE OF THE RECORD, DOES NOT SEPARATE, AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT ON PLAY. There are also a very few very small and light surface marks on one side of the record which cannot be felt and also have no effect on play. Record comes packaged in its original RCA Records stock company sleeve. I have priced this copy of the 'Let Me Be There' promo 45 25% cheaper than my other NM copy due to the minor condition issues - This 45 would be a holiday gift that will amaze and delight any Elvis Presley vinyl record collector, or treat yourself!!
