Description

This lot contains eight 10-inch 78 RPM records, all featuring Artie Shaw on at least one side, and all 15 of the Artie Shaw sides considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's iconic Hot Jazz Discography, and/or in Charles Delaunay's "New Hot Discography." 

All eight records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown in pairs, both sides, in the following order. Please note that one of the sides is not by Artie Shaw at all, and that tracks are instrumental unless a vocalist is stated (in parentheses).

Bluebird # B-10001 -- "What is This Thing Called Love?" and "Yesterdays" (both instrumental) by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra.

Bluebird # B-10347 -- "Go Fly a Kite" (vocal by Tony Pastor) and "A Man and his Dream" (vocal by Helen Forrest) by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra.

RCA Victor # 20-1559 -- "All the Things You Are" (vocal by Helen Forrest) by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra; and "Intermezzo" (vocal by Clyde Rogers) by Freddy Martin and his Orchestra.

Victor # 27256 -- "You Forgot About Me" and "Whispers in the Night" (vocal by Anita Boyer on both sides) by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra.

Victor # 20-1716 -- "That's for Me" and "Yolanda" (vocal by Hal Stevens on both sides) by Artie Shaw and his Orchestra.

Victor # 20-1800 -- "Hop, Skip and Jump" and "Mysterioso" (both instrumental) by Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five.

Victor # 26763 -- "Summit Ridge Drive" and "Cross Your Heart" (both instrumental) by Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five.

Parlophone (UK) # R-2661 -- "All Alone" and "Someday Sweetheart" (both instrumental) by Art Shaw and his New Music.

They could all use a good cleaning, but are otherwise in lightly to moderately played condition, most of them still relatively shiny, but with varying degrees of visible surface wear, all well within the VG to VG+ range. They all played through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, with varying degrees of background noise, most of it light to moderate, but also including some pops and clicks and short passages of ticking. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
