Elmore James, To Know A Man, Orig UK Blue Horizon G/fld LP, EX/EX+ A-1 1st Press

Description

This is the original 1969 UK issue, with the rough Blue Horizon labels of the 1st stereo press. Later issues were on the light blue & smooth BH labels, with the earliest A-1, B-1, C-1, D-1, matrices & matching A-7/A-2 stampers...

Elmore James was an American blues guitarist, singer, songwriter and bandleader of the 'Broom Dusters'. He was known as "King of the slide guitar" and was noted for his use of loud amplification and his stirring voice. This is the first UK issue of 'To Know A Man' originally recorded by Elmore James in May 1963 in Chicago, a couple of weeks before his death, but not released until 1969 in the UK and never fully released in the USA. The record is warts and all and is really a live studio out takes album, with mistakes, speech and jams.....
The Ernest J. Day Group matt gatefold sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some very light corner/edge wear and very light storage rubbing on the front cover, but there is some light rubbing on the inner cover. The spine is intact & fully readable, the plain company inners are intact & in VG+ condition.   The records are in visually EX+ condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and small bag scuffs on side 1/2 and one ore two small needle marks/scuffs on sides 3/4 that do not affect play. The labels are in EX+ condition, clean & bright with evidence of one or two faint spindle markings on each side.   The sound reproduction is EX+, still clear & precise throughout with no hiss, crackle or pops and definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some very brief, low background noise during the run in grooves.
Overall, a really great, loud & clear listen.   The matrix nos. are; S7-63224, A-1 stamper A-7, B-1 stamper A-7,
S7-63225, C-1 stamper A-2, D-1 stamper A-2. This is one of the early pressings of the original 1969 UK stereo 1st issue of this album!
