This ultra-rare Elvis Presley “That’s All Right / Blue Moon Of Kentucky” 1st Pressing Misprint Label Upside Down 209 Sun 45 will make a nice addition to your collection.
This was the first of five singles Elvis released on the Sun label. Sam Phillips was in such a rush to get Elvis’ first record out, no one noticed catalog number 209 on the B-Side was upside down. It was quickly caught and subsequent pressings were corrected. The 1st pressing with the upside down 209 is considered to be one of the rarest Elvis collectables.
This record has the push marks, visible beneath the labels. The engraved identification number on “That’s All Right” is U-128-44-72, and the engraved identification number for “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” is U-129-45-72. The upside down 209 is clearly visible in the photo.
The vinyl has considerable light surface wear but plays well. The A-side has one pop, the B-side has none. The blank lead-in area on the A-side has a manufacturing imperfection. My turntable drops the needle past that point, so it’s never been an issue for me. The trailing blank space on the A-side after the song has a scratch near the label. My turntable lifts the needle well before the mark, so, again, it’s never been an issue for me. The record does have the infamous “Sun hiss”, which is a result of Sun cutting early records with a 78rpm needle.
Both labels are in very good condition. There is fading at the top of one side, very light scuffing in a couple of areas, but no writing or tears. There are some very minor nicks at the inner hole where the spindle adapter was inserted, removed, inserted, etc. I have never removed the insert.
I am offering the record in an effort to downsize our possessions, which one does upon reaching a certain point in life (another way of saying “getting old”). I made sure to use a lot of light when photographing the record, so you may see exactly what the record looks like. I was surprised to see what it looks like in the photo – it plays much better than what appears.
