Explosions in the Sky — The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place on vinyl (Temporary Residence Ltd., TRR61) — the original 2003 first pressing in the gatefold sleeve. Complete 2-LP set: the music disc plus the second one-sided disc featuring the beautiful side-D etching of birds with the inscription “the earth is not a cold dead place because you are listening, because you are breathing.” The gatefold jacket carries the album’s iconic hand-lettered artwork by Esteban Rey — the title repeated across the cover with the song titles woven in red script (First Breath After Coma, The Only Moment We Were Alone, Six Days at the Bottom of the Ocean, Memorial, Your Hand in Mine) — opening to reveal the watercolor forest illustrations inside. Recorded June 2003 in Texas by John Congleton.
