Description
This is a FOLK SONGS FOR THE 21st CENTURY 1960 LP SHELDON ALLMAN with a SPUTNIK SATELLITE COVER
Sheldon Allman was born in Chicago, but moved to Canada at the age of three weeks because, as he expresses it, "he felt he wasn't getting anyplace."
At 18 he joined the RCAF, was promptly shipped overseas, saw action, was wounded and ended up convalescing in a British Army Hospital.
Although he did not know it at the time, this series of propitious events were to start him on a career in show business.
Ted Thorpe, the present owner of The Players Ring theatre in Hollywood, was, at that time, an officer in the Canadian Army, putting together a show to tour the Army bases in England.
Thorpe was having trouble finding a comedian for his show and as he was walking through the hospital he noticed a young patient playing the piano and singing his own songs.
Back in Canada, Sheldon continued in nightclub work, and also wrote special material for various acts.
However, his first love was serious singing, and this brought him to Los Angeles where he studied for an operatic career.
While studying, he supported himself by writing songs, working clubs, producing TV shows and working as a disk jockey.
After a two year sojourn in Europe, he decided he was not dedicated enough for serious music and returned to Los Angeles.
