Description
Original UK Polydor label stereo press LP.The first album by Fairport Convention, recorded in November 1967 & first released in June 1968. The group was formed in May 1967 and were featured in a concert promoted by Brian Epstein at the Saville Theatre in London, where Joe Boyd signed them to Polydor. The album features their original singer Judy Dyble and later vocalist Ian Matthews, who joined them for their first recording session in November. They covered several other artists, including Joni Mitchell & Emmitt Rhodes, as well as their own songs, but Judy Dyble left soon after its release to be replaced by Sandy Denny.
This is the original stereo issue with the red Polydor labels, the MCPS box credits and Polydor Stereo label on the rear of the fully laminated sleeve. With the earliest A//1 B//1 matrices and 1-1-8 1-1-9 stampers of the very first presses (see Discogs). The Ernest J. Day & Co fully laminated sleeve is intact & in EX condition, with some light corner/edge wear & some light laminate rubbing/scuffing and a couple of creases on the cover. The spine is intact and fully readable, the company inner is intact and in EX condition. The record is in visually EX condition, with only a couple of faint sleeve removal hairlines and a couple of small needle marks/scuffs, with a couple of small areas of bag rash/scuffing visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of faint spindle markings on each side. The sound reproduction is EX, still clear & precise throughout with no loud hiss, pops or crackle & definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low background noise during the run in grooves and very briefly in a couple of the quieter passages, overall a really great, clear and loud listen. The matrix nos. are; 583035, A//1-420 stamper 1-1-8, B//1-420 stamper 1-1-9. This is one of the early copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1968 UK stereo issue of this album!
