Description
[THIS WEEK I am offering selected twelve-inch records. In my haste at selling the ten-inch ones, I utterly overlooked the fascinating world of these twelve-inchers. There is some exceedingly cool stuff here! Hope you like the change.]
FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS (1909-1930), the VICTOR LIGHT OPERA COMPANY regularly did four-and-a-half minute condensations of the current Broadway musicals. Frequently, these records are the only versions we have of various obscure show tunes, and thus are prized by collectors.
In this case, we have the V.L.O.C. in 1926, doing two of the happiest and snappiest shows then on the boards: Irving Berlin's "THE COCOANUTS" and Otto Harbach, Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern's "SUNNY."
"Cocoanuts," of course, starred the Marx Brothers and a delightful Berlin score, including "The Monkey Doodle-Doo" and "Florida By the Sea." Later, in 1929, "Cocoanuts" was their first film. "Sunny" starred the lovely dancer Marilyn Miller, and posed the musical question,"Who?"
This original 1926 "Bat Wing" Electrical Victor 35769 is in agreeable EE+ condition.
PHOTO: 1) l to r: Zeppo, Groucho, Chico and Harpo, in the 1929 Paramount film of "The Cocoanuts." 2 & 3) The exquisite Marilyn Miller. (The pleasure of selecting pictures of Marilyn is one reason I listed this record!)

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing! My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value. I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all. If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will! Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.” I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
