Description

Gertrude Lawrence on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Saturday Matinee, January 28 1939, in a ten-minute play titled "CIRCLE 5780" written by Catherine Turney and Gerry Horwin, with supporting actors Sterndale Bennett and Ann Philips. Lawrence was appearing in Toronto in "Susan and God" at the Royal Alexandra Theatre at the time. This is a single-sided 16" aluminum transcription disc, recorded off air (not by the CBC) by a studio whose identity has disappeared in the frayed portion of the label. Disc has some scuffs but is generally E- and plays well. A 78RPM dub of this aircheck, minus the opening announcement, was in the possession of a Toronto collector in the 80s but otherwise this is the only complete copy I'm aware of.
