THE BABY / SAX IN THE NIGHT (from L'Inferno Addosso film) ... 7-inch, 45rpm OST single by GLAUCO MASETTI E IL SUO COMPLESSO. Original Italian pressing on FONIT label (SP. 30806), from 1960. Super-obscure and practically unknown Italian jazz item. A new discovery for us, at least :) A fabulous double-sider of small group, cool jazz moderno. Features the slow blues tempo / film noir-esque / Gaslini La Notte style modal jazz theme SAX IN THE NIGHT. Seductive rhythms and stylish solos galore. Mood music from L'Inferno Addosso, a psychological thriller from 1959 directed by Gianni Vernuccio starring Sandro Luporini / Sandro Pizzorro / Annabella Incontrera and Jeanine Falconi. THE BABY side is also superb and starts / finishes with a moderato swing sound, similar to certain Piero Umiliani arrangements of the period. The rhythms in between have a more west coast influenced, stylish bop sound, especially the lead solos of Masetti. Our 7inch would appear to be an elusive pressing by Fonit to promote Masetti over the film music. Strange that this recording is not documentated in general. The film itself, was quite controversial in its day as certain sexy scenes were banned / removed before its initial release. One for the Italian jazz connoisseur and lover of the european new wave of jazz in film. Seldom comes up for sale. Very rare OST 45!!!

Probable musicians :

Glauco Masetti - alto sax

Cesare Bergonzi - tenor sax

Enzo Nardini- baritone sax

Bepe Termini - double bass / contrabass

Franco Mojoli - piano

Franco Cerri or Enzo Grillini - guitar

Lionello Bionda - drums

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition (closer to M-) with some hairlines / faint scuffs from sleeve removal / storage. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops / soft ticks in places (as you can hear on our soundclip). Top production sound. Dirt marks to label from storage. Record will be housed in generic Fonit / Cetra custom label sleeve (no picture sleeve exists). Some light wear to sleeve from storage. Very rare OST 45!!!
