AUDIOPHILE 45 SPEED LOW NUMBERED 119 TITLES
ALL ARE Featured as one of the 'Records to Die For' in the February 2011 issue of Stereophile!
Incredible Jazz Records + the original analog master tapes + cut at 45 RPM + mastered by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at AcousTech + pressed on two 180-gram virgin vinyl LPs by RTI = THE ULTIMATE LP REISSUE!
The same formula that made the Fantasy 45 Series perhaps the most successful audiophile reissue collection ever is now being reapplied to Blue Note reissues!
Here's How THE VINYL was done:
Using only the original analog master tapes, the renowned team of Steve Hoffman & Kevin Gray remastered and cut all of the titles at AcousTech Mastering, which features a pure Class-A disc-cutting system. AcousTech is located at Record Technology, Inc. the plant where the vinyl was pressed. It is a tremendous sonic advantage to have the pressing plant plating department & mastering room in the same facility as Steve & Kevin could cut a lacquer and plated immediately. This prevents the degradation of the grooves in a lacquer which is very fragile to quick deterioration.
And of course cutting at 45 speed is the audiophile choice for the highes quality. A 45-RPM record is sonically superior to a 33 1/3 variety because of a 35 percent reduction of groove curvature compared to a 33 1/3 cut.. It means that while you can't fit as much music into a 45, the undukations of the groove that your cartridge has to track are stretched over a longer distance. For these reissues, the music was displaced onto four sides, meaning each side contains about 10 minutes of music.
This is the ultimate reissues. The only way you'll get closer to this classic music is to listen to the master tapes or have been in the studio with the artist originally during the actual session.

FIVE 33 & 1/3 TITLES AS A LISTENING BONUS
The Final Comedown was Blue Note’s first film soundtrack and a departure for both the label and Grant Green. True, many of Green’s sessions from this period dipped into funk and R&B, but most of the tracks heard here are pensive mood pieces, conceived as the backing tracks to the blaxploitation film of the same name." Simply a great selection of Jazz Guitar tracks. A most for any collector of the finest jazz. Track Listings 1. Past, Present And Future 2. The Final Comedown 3. Father's Lament 4. Fountain Scene 5. Soul Food - African Shop 6. Slight Fear And Terror 7. Afro Party 8. Luanna's Theme 9. Battle Scene 10. Traveling To Get To Doc 11. One Second After DeathSOLID - Grant Green recorded a mountain of LP'S for Blue Note in the 1960s; so many that quite a few were left in the can till after his premature death in 1979. As it turns out quite a lot of the unreleased LP'S count among his best work. In 1964 he twice recorded with a rhythm section of McCoy Tyner, Bob Cranshaw & Elvin Jones & the June session, on which Joe Henderson and James Spaulding were added, yielded Solid. It's a good session, probably the most hard-hitting Green ever recorded, with a typically catholic choice of material by Duke Pearson, George Russell (the very long reading of "Ezz-Thetic"), Sonny Rollins, Joe Henderson ("The Kicker", recorded before the famous Horace Silver version), Burt Bacharach ("Wives and Lovers", included as a bonus track but left off the original vinyl), & one Green composition. As with a lot of Green LP'S, the leader doesn't in fact occupy a more prominent position than any of the other players, especially as Green leaves comping duties to Tyner. -- It's rather intriguing, incidentally, how much Green followed not just Coltrane's influence but also Sonny Rollins. Countless Green LP'S include readings of Rollins tunes or Rollins-associated tunes. Rollins' 1954 blues "Solid" is sufficiently basic that one wonders why Green didn't just write his own line & get a little extra cash for a composer credit.
Track Listings
1. Minor League 2. Ezz-Thetic 3. Grant's Tune 4. Solid 5. KickerGREEN BLUES
The essence of the six components with Frank Haynes on Tenor sax, Billy Gardner on Piano, Ben Tucker on Bass, Dave Bailey on Drums & Grant Green on Guitar go to make Green Blues great musicianship, unity of approach, and a natural quality that is only found after necessary years of dues being paid. This is , in fact, an album you will find yourself returning to many times. That's because these 5 men had something to say.
Tracks are:
One For Elena
Our Miss Brooks
A Flick of a Trick
Falling in Love with Love
Baby You Should Know It
Reaching Out
THE LATIN BIT
Probably the most well known tune on the release is "mambo inn", made famous by george shearing quintet a few years earlier. While Johnny Acea's piano playing is similar to shearing's, Green's excellent, and long, guitar solo gives the track its own uniqueness. Also included on the LP is a samba version of charlie parker's, "My little Suede Shoes". again, Green takes control of the song, with a few excellent and creative solos but, while Green's nimble and relaxed guitar playing give the LP a spark, it's the backing band that keeps it fresh. Willie Bobo keeps everything steady on the drums, while Potato Valdez on the congas and carvin masseaux on the chekere make the music sound Tremendous.

Of all of Grant Green's late-period performances, LIVE AT THE LIGHTHOUSE was arguably the most magical. By 1972 Green was deep into his final funky period of performing extended James Brown-inflected pop material. Here, at the most famous of West Coast jazz venues, the music exploded off the stage for an appreciative audience. Backed by a large group that included Wilton Felder on electric bass, the burning saxophonist Claude Bartee, and female percussionist Bobbye Hall, Green was on fire, ripping out one blistering solo after another.
In his opening remarks, emcee Hank Stewart announces that they are there to "create love through the medium of music." This is a prophetic statement, as Green was clearly a master of expression through his instrument. Though he was often criticized for performing less-than-traditional material, Grant Green transcended style, producing highly musical performances out of works like the pop song "Betcha By Golly Wow." Also included are Donald Byrd's flowing "Fancy Free" and the fiery epic "Jan Jan." Next to being there on that magical occasion, this disc fully realizes for the listener Green performing at his best, even at a time when it seemed his best glory was behind him.

GRANT GREEN STREET FUNK & JAZZ GROOVES ( THE BEST OF )
Blue Note 10 tracks (71:21)
Green was born on June 6, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri. He first performed in
a professional setting at the age of 13. His early influences were Charlie
Christian and Charlie Parker; however, he played extensive R & B gigs in his
home town and in East Saint Louis, IL while developing his jazz chops. His
first recordings in St. Louis were with tenor saxophonist Jimmy Forrest for
the Delmark label. Lou Donaldson discovered green playing in a bar in St.
Louis. After touring together with Donaldson, Green arrived in New York
around 1959-60. In a Down Beat interview from the early 60's, Green said
"The first thing I learned to play was boogie-woogie. Then I had to do a lot
of rock and roll. It's all blues, anyhow."
Lou Donaldson introduced Green to Alfred Lion of Blue Note Records. Lion was
so impressed that, rather than testing Green as a sideman, as was the usual
Blue Note practice, he arranged for him to record as a bandleader first.
This recording relationship was to last, with a few exceptions, throughout
the 'sixties. From 1961 to 1965 Green made more Blue Note LPs as leader and
sideman than anyone else. Green was named best new star in the Down Beat
critics' poll, 1962. As a result, his influence spread wider than New York.
Green's first session as a leader did not meet the approval of Lion and was
shelved, not to be released until 2002 as First Session. Green's first
issued album as a leader was Grant's First Stand. This was followed in the
same year by two more Blue Note releases: Green Street and Grantstand. He
often provided support to many of other great musicians on Blue Note.

Recorded live at the Cliche Lounge, Newark, New Jersey on August 15, 1970. Originally released on Blue Note (84360). Includes liner notes by Stanley Dance and Bob Belden.
Digitally remastered using 24-bit technology by Kurt Lundvall.
Recorded live in 1970 at the ClichT Lounge in Newark, New Jersey, ALIVE! is Grant Green at his funkiest. Often spurned by critics in his late period for selling out, Green churns out burning riffs and fiery solos on this date, regardless of style. Also making significant contributions to the date are the exceptional organists Neal Creque and Ronnie Foster, saxophonist Claude Bartee, vibraphonist William Bivens, and the irrepressible Idris Muhammad on drums. Whether its raging funk, dreamy Latin, or down-home soul, Green and his men perform with style and flare that is unsurpassed.
Many tracks will be familiar to listeners as the band covers a good many pop songs like Kool & The Gang's "Let The Music Take Your Mind" and the Isley Brothers' "It's Your Thing." While this may seem unforgivable to some, Green's stunningly expressive renditions of Creque's "Time To Remember" and Herbie Hancock's classic "Maiden Voyage" should dissuade all doubts as to where the music was coming from. Sadly, most tracks are faded out before the club's patrons applauded, but plenty of cheers were captured as individual band introductions were made. Indeed, applause was warranted as Green was still in command of his highly regarded style.
