YOU ARE LOOKING AT ONE OF THE MOST COLLECTABLE SINGLES FROM THE SPECTRES WHO LATER WENT ON TO BECOME STATUS QUO.

IT HAS GAINED CLASSIC STATUS IN THE MOD AND FREAKBEAT SCENES WITH THE MAGNIFICENT ‘NEIGHBOUR, NEIGHBOUR’ ON SIDE 2.

IT IS OFFERED IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

MY APOLOGIES FOR THE LESS THAN PERFECT SOUND QUALITY BUT PLEASE BE ASSURED THAT THE BACKGROUND ‘HISS’ YOU CAN HEAR IS A LITTLE SPEAKER NOISE – THE VINYL IS IN NEAR MINT CONDITION. THERE IS NO SURFACE NOISE.

This was the first release to feature any of the musicians that would later become Status Quo. During their mid to late teens with a line up which comprised Alan Lancaster, Francis Rossi, John Coghlan and Roy Lynes, The Spectres had recorded some demo tracks - including a cover of 'I (Who Have Nothing)'. The group's manager Pat Barlow later sent copies of this material to various people in the music business, including jazz musician and club owner Ronnie Scott - who was also a songwriter and publisher for a company called Valley Music in 1966. He heard and liked the demo and played it to a friend called John Schroeder, who was an A&R man for Pye Records subsidiary label Piccadilly. Schroeder went to see The Spectres perform live at Charlie Chester's Casino in London's West End and later visited the group in their basement rehearsal room. He eventually signed The Spectres on a five year recording contract with Pye Records Piccadilly label on 18th July 1966.

THE A1 / B2 STAMPERS IN THE RUN OUT GROOVES CONFIRM THAT THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST COPIES TO ROLL OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE. 

BOTH LABELS ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THE LABEL NECKLACE IS PRESENT AND IN PERFECT ORDER.

THE ORIGINAL COMPANY SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. 

THE RECORD HAS BEEN KEPT IN A SMOKE AND PET FREE HOME.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

NEAR MINT: The record itself appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
