Description
"HANK MOBLEY AND HIS ALL STARS" BLUE NOTE BLP 1544 MONO from Toshiba EMI JAPAN - Vinyl LP from 1984 1500 Series - EXCELLENT +... Beautiful Copy. RARE. No Reserve.
The 1984 heavy special powder-coated jacket has a real old-school look and is still bright and shows the very slightest in shelf wear. All seams and corners are clean and look close to new. Excellent + - just shy of NM. Same grading for the LP... EX + Very clean and bright. Same for the labels. This did not see much play. The BLP 1500 insert show a bit of fade, but is in great shape with no marks or writing. A very cool - and rare - piece of Blue Note Japan 1500 Series history.
Hank Mobley and His All Stars is an album by jazz saxophonist Hank Mobley, released on the Blue Note label in 1957 as BLP 1544. It was recorded on January 13, 1957, and features Mobley along with the other members of the first lineup of the Jazz Messengers: pianist Horace Silver, bassist Doug Watkins, and drummer Art Blakey, with vibraphonist Milt Jackson of Modern Jazz Quartet.
Blue Note BLP 1500 Series LP reissue series from Toshiba EMI Ltd of titles from Blue Note's 1500 series. These were issued with a round sticker on the front shrink wrap instead of an obi. The stickers state that these come with a 'fileable pamphlet' (hole-punched insert) with liner notes, and were cut using a Westrex 3D-II AH cutting head and 'original amp' to recreate the RVG sound. See pics for insert!
Special features of initial BLP 1500 Series pressings were "powder-coated jackets" ... a nod to how Blue Note originals from the 1950s were made.
