Description
Up for sale is a scarce record which would be of particular interest to collectors of New Orleans music and historic memorabilia. It features entertaining music that was played by a talented duo at a German restaurant that was a fixture in the Central Business District for almost 100 years. Both musicians have signed the album jacket!

Released in 1962 [NOTE: There is no date on the record. The year is obtained from a reference in the December 1, 1962 issue of Billboard Music Week. On page 20, the album was given a 3 star rating and listed as having a "moderate sales potential".]

Helena Polka (Leeds - ASCAP) 1:45Kolb's German Restaurant was founded in 1899. For generations, it was the best known German restaurant in New Orleans. [The city, and surrounding Parishes, have had an active German population dating back to the early 18th century.] In addition to traditional German fare, the menu evolved to include other traditions, including Creole dishes. (Kolb's became particularly known for its turtle soup.) However, changes in culinary tastes led to a progressive decline in business in the latter 20th century and ultimately to the closure of Kolb's in 1995.
The record I am selling was issued during Kolb's heyday. Hans and Rudi provided live entertainment; they were known as the "Strolling Tyroleans". Hans was violinist Ken Autin, a native of New Orleans who had studied under Milton Cherry at Louisiana State University School of Music. He had experience as a pit musician in road musical productions of The Music Man and The Teahouse of the August Moon. Rudi was accordionist Ken Kerr, who hailed from Madison, South Dakota but who had lived in New Orleans since 1938. According to the jacket, he was "one of the city's most accomplished musicians".
The jacket notes were written by Howard Jacobs, long time writer of the "Remoulade Column" for the New Orleans Times-Picayune.
