Description
Harry Partch
Oedipus
Harry Partch Trust Fund First Edition, as Partch labeled his LP releases (this and Plectra & Percussion Dances) before adopting the Gate 5 label name. This is a two-record set on red colored vinyl. It features Partch's drama Oedipus in a version using Partch's own text, rather than the version with Yeats's text. To my knowledge, this is the only complete issue of this recording and of this version of the work. This is two LPs, not the same as the later single LP release of Oedipus on Gate 5.
The condition of the album is poor. The sleeve is split and taped up with masking tape. The records have numerous scratches. They played through on my turntable, but listening was a very crackly experience.
The saving grace, in addition to its rarity, is an inscription on the front cover that reads "Light -- Sunshine -- and Christopher Columbus / jan. 16, 1956 -- Love to Ema and Dorsey -- Harry." I can't guarantee the authenticity of the signature, but the (reputable) record dealer I bought this from believed it to be genuine, and it looks like Partch's handwriting to these (non-expert) eyes.
Records are graded visually except where noted. I give descriptions of any problems rather than relying on any grading system. Buyers dissatisfied with condition grading may return items for full refund of purchase price (less shipping).
