Great down home, authentic country blues from obscure, eccentric Harmonica, Rhythm Bones player ... and puppeteer!
.An amazing live club recording in San Francisco, 1975 featuring J.C. Burris singing, playing harmonica and bones.
Burris never much joined in or strove to make a name for himself in the major Blues sphere or on record, though he's the nephew of Sonny Terry, and a very talented blues harmonica player and writer. Besides playing harp, bones and singing, he constructs and works puppets that often feature in his performances. On this LP he puts one of them to work on "Mr. Jack's Dance".
Luckily some avid followers got a tape of a performance in San Francisco and this scarce Arhoolie LP was issued in 1976.
He signed the LP for a couple of fans at a performance in 1985. Burris died in 1988.

The nephew of Sonny Terry, Johnny "J.C." Burris was a blues harmonica player who wasn't recorded much. He's also noted for his use of African rhythm bones, two sticks played like castanets that can be played off the harmonica.
Burris did some performing in New York in the 1950s and worked on recording sessions with Terry, Sticks McGhee, and other artists on Folkways Records. At the end of the decade, he relocated to California, finding some work in folk clubs in San Francisco before a stroke in 1966 robbed him of his use of his right side. Several years later, he regained his mobility on his right side, and in 1973, he began performing again, recording this album for Arhoolie . He continued playing at clubs, schools (where he always brought out his puppets), and festivals until his death in 1988.
All records packed with vinyl (inside inner sleeve) behind cover - and shipped in strong LP mailer boxes with bubble-wrap around all sides - sandwiched between stiff corrugated flats for best protection in the mail.
Please be aware that these important supplies add to my shipping costs - of which only a very small amount is added into the shipping charge.
My LP packing is considered to be among the very best on eBay. I would have it no other way.
