Description

ARTIST: JETHRO TULL

TITLE: THIS WAS

LABEL: ISLAND ILP 985

This is a UK MONO first pressing on the pink Island label with the black and orange ball logo (see photo), the rarest and, in my opinion, best LP by Jethro Tull. This is a great copy pressed on heavy 60's vinyl, with rough pink Island labels and WIDE spine denoting an early first pressing. The matrix numbers are ILP+985+A and ILP+985+B.

The vinyl grades VG+ on visual grade and EX+ on sound quality. The vinyl retains its black lustre and shows only the very faintest whispey lines visible under bright light. These have no affect on the play quality which is superb. The mono mixed sound is really awesome as it should be with deep pressed grooves characteristic of 60's issues on the Island label. There is no groove wear, no hiss, no crackle, no pops, no skips, no repeats or anything to detract from the aural experience. There is a touch of very light crackle on the run in but nothing audible at all in the music. I have seldom heard a better copy of this particular LP. There is one small mark towards the end of the last track on side 2 but this has only very minimal and fleeting affect on the sound.

The rough pink orange and black ball logo labels are EX- and EX+. There is a small initial on side one.

The gatefold sleeve is fully laminated and has internal flip backs. It is as I said the wide spine version of the sleeve. Its a nice sleeve with very flat and clean lines. The only fault is an area of wear at the top of the spine about 2 cm long which can be seen in the photograph. The spine is totally readable and apart from this one defect the sleeve would grade EX to EX+ but in view of the area where the spine has been worn away I will grade it VG+.

BUYER INFORMATION

Please note that unless the play quality is specifically mentioned records are graded visually. I aim to describe the visual appearance of all items accurately using the standards below which are based on the UK Record Collector Price Guide. The highest grade I use now is NEAR MINT ('UNPLAYED' if still sealed in shrink wrap or occasionally full MINT but only if the provenance of the item suggests this to be correct). Records graded EX+ or EX++ would probably be called 'near mint' or 'mint' by most sellers. Please READ THE ITEM DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY and study photographs to avoid disappointment later. I will refund only on items which do not conform to the description and standards set out here.

GRADING SYSTEM

NEAR MINT: The record appears to be in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and other inserts are perfect. For MINT grading see above

EXCELLENT: The item has been played and may have some light surface marks but there is very little, if any, lessening in sound quality. Cover and contents have slight wear.

VERY GOOD: The record has been played quite alot but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Cover and contents show some wear.

GOOD:The record has been played many times and the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably. The cover and contents are often damaged.

I use EX++,EX+,VG++,VG+ as subsidiary gradings. Unless the record is extremely rare I do not sell items which are less than VG in condition.

Check out my feedback and you will feel secure in bidding but please note I cannot guarantee to describe every detail of the record and cover BUT the grading will reflect the general, actual condition. ONLY if the grading does not reflect the overall condition of the item will I refund. But be assured that if there is any major defect not mentioned by me I offer a no quibble guarantee. I do not refund return postage costs.

I accept PayPal, cheques drawn on UK banks and Postal Orders. Please note I prefer cheques from UK buyers. I do not make any additional charge for using Paypal.

Secure postage for single LPs is £3.00 (UK) and £6.00 (EU). Double LPs £5.00 (UK) and £9.50 (EU). The rest of world is £7.50 for single LPs and £10.00 for doubles. Rates for multiple copies and singles vary. Items over £30 in value are recommended to be sent insured. If you wish to have an item insured the cost is £4.00 UK and £6.00 Rest of World. I obtain a certificate of posting from the UK Post Office for all items. If an item is lost in the post I will claim on the buyer's behalf and reimburse when the Post Office pays compensation. I will refund the purchase price for any item which does not match the grade criteria outlined above. You will see from my feedback that buyers are very positive about the accuracy of the descriptions I provide. It is the buyer's responsibility to read the listing carefully. I will not refund if the buyer has made unwarranted assumptions about the item. I WILL REFUND AUCTION COSTS IN FULL IF A CLAIM IS MADE WITHIN 3 WEEKS OF THE END OF THE AUCTION.
