Description
This is an original stereo UK vinyl copy of the classic Jimi Hendrix double album Electric Ladyland on the very first matt black Track labels of 1968 (Track 613008/613009) featuring INVERTED serial numbers on all four sides (only found on the very first pressings) plus a full set of 1/1/1/1 matrix endings.
These two thick slabs of original 60s vinyl (with their original back-to-back sides of A/D and C/B) are in remarkable VG+ condition with just a couple of minor marks visible under halogen light which hardly affect the sound. All four sides play well with a lovely warm quality, ideally suited to this blissed out blues/psych sound. Each disc seems to have enjoyed little use over the years, confirmed by a full set of four particularly clean matt black Track labels which are also in VG+ condition, showing very few spindle marks and virtually no wear around the actual spindle holes themselves.
In detail, under halogen lighting, side A label shows minimal spindle wear and just one light hairline mark on the vinyl; side B label shows the most spindle marks and a small thumb-nail type graze on the vinyl across tracks 1 and 2 which looks worse than it is; sides C and D both present almost no spindle or vinyl marks at all. The vinyl, therefore, is in unusually fine condition for such a classic album - one which will generally have been grooved to the grave.
The iconic fully laminated E J Day & Co Ltd gatefold sleeve is in VG- condition retaining all the vibrancy of its original colours but with plentiful creasing, corner wear all round and rubbing along the two opening edges. It is not mint a mint cover by any means but nevertheless is still perfectly capable of looking after these two fine discs.
The four matrices are: side A - 61300 (followed by two crossed out numbers and then) 8 followed by A//1; side B - 613008 B//1; side C - a complete matrix number crossed out and then a handwritten 613009B followed by an A (which may or may not be crossed out, and then the) //1; side D - 61300(number crossed out, then a handwritten) 8 (followed by) B//1. Yes, these are confusing and apparently contradictory matrices so I am not sure what is going on here.
Here then is a chance to enjoy this awesome original Hendrix blues/psych classic album as it was meant to be enjoyed, on glorious warm vinyl produced probably as close to the original masters as you can get.
