·       ORIGINAL, THIN CARDBOARD COVER (EUROPEAN STYLE)

·       ORIGINAL LAMINATED COVER (LAMINATED BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE)

·       THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK (CELLOPHANE) WRAP (WHICH IS WHY WE COULD NOT USE INSIDE IMAGES FROM THE ACTUAL ITEM AND HAD TO RECYCLE THE IMAGES FROM OUR PREVIOUS AUCTION); WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE ORIGINAL BRITISH PRESSINGS WERE NOT SEALED; THEREFORE, THIS COPY APPARENTLY MUST HAVE BEEN SHRINKWRAPPED BY THE AMERICAN DISTRIBUTOR AS AN IMPORT FROM GREAT BRITAIN

·       THICK, HEAVY VINYL PRESSING

·       Original, first pressing Track labels (such as the ones we have here) have a slightly different texture to the paper, but the single most important difference between the first and later Track/Polydor pressings is the catalogue number on the label:  On the left side of the center hole, the catalogue number is repeated above the bold silver print in small print, inverted in a bracket, i.e. upside down. In other words it can be read regardless of which way up you hold the record. Those bracketed catalogue numbers end with a capital "A" or "B" per side, on both record's labels this is only found on the very first pressing (please see the image of the labels shown above, for illustration).

(PLEASE SEE THE IMAGE OF THE COVER, LABEL OR BOTH, SHOWN BELOW)

(Note: this is a REAL image of the ACTUAL item you are bidding on. This is NOT a "recycled" image from our previous auction. What you see is what you’ll get.  GUARANTEED!)

Jimi Hendrix's third and final album with the original Experience found him taking his funk and psychedelic sounds to the absolute limit. The result was not only one of the best rock albums of the era, but also Hendrix's original musical vision at its absolute apex. When revisionist rock critics refer to him as the maker of a generation's mightiest dope music, this is the album they're referring to. But Electric Ladyland is so much more than just background music for chemical intake. Kudos to engineer Eddie Kramer for taking Hendrix's visions of a soundscape behind his music and giving it all context, experimenting with odd mic techniques, echo, backward tape, flanging, and chorusing, all new techniques at the time, at least the way they're used here. What Hendrix sonically achieved on this record expanded the concept of what could be gotten out of a modern recording studio in much the same manner as Phil Spector had done a decade before with his Wall of Sound. As an album this influential (and as far as influencing a generation of players and beyond, this was his ultimate statement for many), the highlights speak for themselves: "Crosstown Traffic," his reinterpretation of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," "Burning of the Midnight Lamp," the spacy "1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be)," and "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)," a landmark in Hendrix's playing. With this double set (now on one compact disc), Hendrix once again pushed the concept album to new horizons.

(EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY THE LATE, GREAT CUB KODA, ALL MUSIC GUIDE  /ALLMUSIC.COM/)

Following the first two Jimi Hendrix' albums, instantly acclaimed as classics, Electric Ladyland propelled Jimi Hendrix into the Olympian stratosphere (indeed, portions of the album sound as if they were recorded on a lonely, wind-swept mountain peak). After this album, there was no doubt in anyone's mind: Jimi had absolutely no peers of any kinds whatsoever and was the new Electric Guitar "God". He would remain one until this day.  The album features an incredible cast of characters and supporting crew, some of whom are UNCREDITED. Al Kooper, Steve Winwood and Jefferson Airplane's Jack Cassady are known to have played on the sessions and are officially credited; Johnny Winter, Stephen Stills and Jim Morrison (whose murmuring and drunken rants can purportedly be heard in the background of "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" are rumored to be among the guests. You be the judge.

For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A&R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals (including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye , Bruce Morrow (a/k/a "Cousin Brucie"), Tim Rice (of "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Evita" fame), Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton (who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan's first album), Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.). For more details, see: "Critics Choice: Top-200 albums" compiled by Paul Gambaccini, Omnibus Press, Library of Congress Catalog No.7855565 (or ►click here  for the complete album listing)

And, finally, if this is of any relevance (and we do not claim that it is) "Electric Ladyland " is an important  entry in my personal top list. Other entries on our top-50 list (in no particular order) include Otis Redding, Love, Sam Cooke,  Can, Tim Buckley, Byrds, James Carr,  Stooges, Five Royales,  Bob Marley & The Wailers, Richard and Linda Thompson and  Muddy Waters)

·                               CONDITION:

·                               RECORDS:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE DISC # 1 (SIDES A & D) AS   NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible on this record, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          WE GRADE DISC # 1 (SIDES B & C) AS STRONG VG++.. CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 1.1/4 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

(c)           The records come in their original poly-lined “Made in Great Britain” stock inner sleeves

(d)          The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER):

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a few visible (and somewhat annoying) wrinkles along the seams

-        Visible shelf wear noted on all three seams (top, bottom, spine)

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the opening side; the fraying is also noted along the folding ON THE INSIDE GATEFOLD

-        Cover has a minor 'bump' (dent) on the opening side

-        Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 1.

-        The laminated cover has a few air 'bubbles' and wrinkles in lamination (this is a common problem with most laminated 50’s and 60’s covers

-        Cover has all four corners slightly worn / dinged

-        Cover has a partially split spine (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters) (VISIBLE ONLY ON THE INSIDE GATEFOLD)

NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE  COVER

*** IMPORTANT CORRECTION ***

·       Unfortunately, we made a significant material error in the TOP (red letters) section of our item description and, since eBay will no longer allow us to amend the description because that the item already has bids, we would like to inform all our bidders on this item - both current and future - about this unfortunate situation. This is the paragraph in question:

·       "THE COVER IS STILL IN ITS ORIGINAL SHRINK (CELLOPHANE) WRAP (WHICH IS WHY WE COULD NOT USE INSIDE IMAGES FROM THE ACTUAL ITEM AND HAD TO RECYCLE THE IMAGES FROM OUR PREVIOUS AUCTION); WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE ORIGINAL BRITISH PRESSINGS WERE NOT SEALED; THEREFORE, THIS COPY APPARENTLY MUST HAVE BEEN SHRINKWRAPPED BY THE AMERICAN DISTRIBUTOR AS AN IMPORT FROM GREAT BRITAIN"

·       This paragraph is a remnant from the previous listing and, unfortunately, we failed to delete it from the current listing. The paragraph wrongly implies that the album is still in shrink wrap, and that we could not take actual images of the INSIDE of the gatefold cover because of the presence of the shrink wrap. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. As the attached images demonstrate, there is no shrink wrap on the cover, and we assure everyone that ALL attached images of the album are of the real, actual item, NOT recycled images from the previous auction. Therefore, this entire paragraph should be removed from consideration.

·       PLEASE REST ASSURED THAT ALL OTHER DETAILS IN OUR ITEM DESCRIPTION REMAIN THE SAME AND UNCHANGED.

·       All those who decide to cancel their existing bids on this item will be perfectly within their rights to do so.

·       Please accept our sincere apology for this unfortunate blunder. Thank you all for your interest in this item and our other eBay listings.
