ONEADAYRECORDS – Simply Delivering Quality Music to the World in Quality, Safe Packing.

Postage: UK £4.75 (£1 per extra record). Europe (including Russia) £12.50 (£2 per extra record). Rest of World (including ALL parts of the USA) £16.50 (£3 per extra record). All boxes signed for in quality, safe packaging – I NEVER use mailing envelopes that offer virtually no protection at all – in fact I think these things should be banned as records WILL arrive damaged in them at some time. Here, you get what you pay for – SAFE PACKING in BOXES using 7mm DOUBLE-WALL STIFFENERS. Full details nearer the end of the listing.

Posting to Russia: Yes, I do post to Russia. But delivery can take up to 4 to 6 weeks from the UK. So please be patient. I will submit a tracking number to the winning bidder, and when the packet arrives there it can be followed online using the Russian post website.

ALSO: I now apply the Ebay ‘2-day’ rule for non-payment to keep things moving – cash-flow is important for any small business. I will always keep my P&P prices as low as possible, and even after yet another Royal Mail price hike from April this year, I have NOT raised my prices and will never compromise on solid, safe packing that is invariably heavier than most you will get. My P&P offers probably the best value-for-money for vinyl records available, and I even will pay for full insurance on any record that sells for over £100 at NO extra cost – that is UK and abroad. Also I aim to post the very same day after payment is received. You WILL see the difference when my packet arrives.

FINALLY: Late payers, non-payers and ‘0’ bidders will now be blocked or cancelled at my discretion. As will any bidder who cancels a bid. I do not like this practice as it is most often used to phish out the price to beat. Ebay does not approve and neither do I – so only bid on my items if you want them.

Artist or Band: THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE

Album Title: Electric Ladyland

Producer(s): Jimi Hendrix and Chas Chandler.

TRACK LIST:

Side 1: And the Gods Made Love; Have You Ever Been (to Electric Ladyland?); Cross Town Traffic; Voodoo Chile.

Side 2: Little Miss Strange; Long Hot Summer Night; Come On; Gipsy Eyes; The Burning of the Midnight Lamp.

Side 3: Rainy Day, Dream, Away; 1983… (A merman I should turn to be); Moon, Turn the Tides.. Gently, Gently Away.

Side 4: Still Raining, Still Dreaming; House Burning Down; All Along the Watchtower; Voodoo Chile (Slight Return).

Label/Format: Track – matt, smooth format with intense black ink.

Label Conditions: All four are clean, fresh and attractive. Spindle marks are quite few in number, but range from fairly fine to moderate, non-penetrating, but a few thicker scuffy looking ones. So not pristine, but the record’s playing surfaces come closer as does the sound for all four sides. I have heard few with cleaner overall sound and fewer issues in terms of unwanted sound – this pair were a true delight to play-grade. The cover is very impressive as well –more on that further down.

Cat Number: 613008/9 (set number 2657-001)

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm. This 1968 album was not officially issued in mono, thus many Track copies are seen in pitiful condition, trashed by heavy usage on mono records players that wrecked that once incredible sound. This copy has suffered no such abuse and appears modestly and very carefully played. That reiterated by fantastic clean audio quality throughout with hardly anything (if indeed anything) unwanted.

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of these Records: 124 / 120 grams. Solid pressings and made with quality vinyl with no dulling or impurities seen – thus the clean sound most collectors crave.

Country of Manufacture: England

Rarity: Initially issued with blue writing inside the cover, these are very rare and even more so in decent condition. Replaced very quickly with the white writing inside. Finding any Track copy in anything like top conditions is becoming increasingly difficult as this legendary artist’s popularity and collectability continues to soar. Only available on Track before being repressed on Polydor for a relatively short time and most who bought it played it into submission on often very crude and basic record players. This hugely complex album is so easily damaged by heavy tracking vintage equipment – indeed many subjected to mono record players, many such players tracked at 10 to 15+ grams, no real wonder many were showing signs of wear after just a few plays. One arm drop or jolt, and there’s another copy written off with a deep scratch, crator, jump or stick – all the perils faced by records of the era, and remember, this legendary album was not even released in mono – that for many, a surprising fact even for 1968. Also, that beautiful ‘ladies’ cover rarely wears well. Although laminated, this often seen badly dulled, peeled, lifted and creased. Finding a fresh example with few of those visual imperfections is immensely difficult and it really is SO frustrating when a nice one comes along, I cannot even show it on Ebay due to it’s almost paranoid and rules on showing nudity. This cover was never banned in the UK so why cannot it be shown? – this will erk all sellers – or at least those who stick to these archaic rules. Anyway, the outside artwork will be described fully further down, and this is one that looks very impressive and still beautifully fresh, do not under-estimate just how difficult this album is to find that looks and sounds this nice.

Original Year of Release: 1968. that a copy from the winter of 1971 as confirmed by the matching pair of Polydor-style inner sleeves that are date-coded 1271 (December 1971). The album was repressed on Polydor from 1973). This can be deemed positive news in many respects, as it was more likely to avoid those really crude old record players many were destroyed on.

Matrix Nos: NOTE: side one backs side four as was usual. 613008 A//2 1 1 1 3 & 613008 B 2 420 1 2 1 2 & 613009 A 2 420 1 1 1 2 & 613009 B//2 420 1 1 1 6 [this copy has NO error corrections]

Musicians: Jimi Hendrix – electric guitar, bass guitar, electric harpsichord, percussion, lead vocals, background vocals, kazoo; Mitch Mitchell – drums, percussion, background vocals, some lead vocals; Noel Redding – bass guitar, background vocals, acoustic guitar, some lead vocals. Guests: Jack Casady, Steve Winwood – organ, Al Kooper – piano, Freddie Smith – tenor saxophone, Buddy Miles – drums, Brian Jones – percussion, Dave Mason – Acoustic 12-String guitar and backing vocals, Chris Wood – flute.

Brief Artist & Album Info: The words ‘classic’ and ‘masterpiece’ are two phrases that are often overused, maybe by myself sometimes as I freely admit, but I do not hesitate in using them for this one. An iconic album by the legend that was Jimi Hendrix. Quite surprisingly, it failed top the album charts, peaking at No 6. This was the last proper album with the name ‘Experience’ following Are You Experienced and Axis Bold As Love. A stunning double set (also issued briefly in single album form with very different covers), that features some amazing tracks including the long and short versions of ‘Voodoo Chile’, Dylan’s ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and the best for me is the long and quite sublime ‘1983’ which flows into ‘Moon, turn the tides...Gently, gently Away’, gentle and beautiful pieces. This album was so ahead of it’s time, the recording is magnificent and the cover is as famous as the music, still one of the most famous sleeves in rock history. This UK version cover was not issued in the US. Such a shame the rules do not allow this impressive cover to be shown in full, but look at the stunning centrefold picture of Hendrix. It still is a great irritation when I have a really nice one to offer, I cannot even show the outer faces. Anyway, still not rules in showing the inner, which is pure class and must rank as one of the greatest ever pictures in rock history. A simply amazing picture of Jimi in full colour with that green smoky haze rising around him – little sums up this fantastic era in music better than this. As stated above, two lovely clean records with sound to match, these very well pressed and without that irritating crackle some have, especially on the quiet passages. Although laminated, that famous cover does not age well. Creases come easily and with the dark finish they ruin the appearance as does any major laminate dulling or lifting which few seem to avoid. Overall, this only gives very few clues to it’s significant age and retains that lovely fresh shine with minimal creasing and (for a change), no bashes or dinks. So a super all-round example that many, if not most collectors will enjoy.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(+): a fully laminated gatefold format with the famous ‘Ladies’ cover that was not issued in the United States. Printed and made in England by Ernest J. Day. This includes the 1971 date-coded polylined inner sleeves.

Laminate – Front & Back: Again, it is with deep frustration I cannot show this beautiful, classic cover, one of the most famous within the history of rock. Yes, I can understand to some degree, not allowing the Blind Faith ‘girl’ cover, but not allowing this, is pure crazy – so many ignore the rules anyway – (or are still unaware of them), but rules are rules – however ridiculous, and I will not (knowingly) break them. The irony is, it can be found with great ease on the internet, so why not here? Rant over: the laminate on both sides retains superb shine, freshness and clarity. There is no lifting or blistering, knocks or bashes, all the laminate is well adhered and with hardly any creasing on the front – a couple of small, gentle half moons apart and traces near the edges. Gentle, very fine traces on the back, this almost certainly as it was made, yes laminate was not always applied to perfection and I can hardly seen how such fine types like this could have been made in any other way (but that is just my opinion, and not definitive of course). There are few marks or press marks at all, light dulling is seen near the central areas around the rim shape, this almost as light as it gets and only really seen with angled viewing. Minor corner tip creasing only on the bottom spine corner (being somewhat critical) with any blemishes to the laminate end unprotected strips on the opening edges being tiny, bordering on minuscule. This is probably my best example for some time, this can be held and enjoyed to the near maximum. Compared to most Track cover examples I have seen of late, this is almost stunning. I doubt many will be disappointed with this one.

Cover Inner Gatefold: Absolutely stunning in all respects with very shiny and fresh laminate, just look at that stunning artwork. I had to photograph this only partially opened in order to avoid breaking the laminate on the central hinge fold. This is still very much tight and intact, the cover still with that prized loud crackle or resistence on opening, and clearly this has never been opened fully flat – there is no faking this. The laminate is close to mirror-like and that foldline hinge has ALL its laminate intact with no flaking or loss of ‘spring’. Such detail and freshness means the difference between average and exceptional. It almost gives that satisfaction of those first purchased with that lovely creak. Most these days are ‘floppy’ and loose with no resistance to being fully opened – the more discerning will appreciate how this looks and sounds.

Top & Bottom Edges: There is rubbing to the bottom front on the right for about an inch, this is only fine and does NOT encroach on to the front or inside – this apart, there is little else to fault. I would have given the extra (+) to this cover bar this minor light wear that is rarely avoided on storage edges. This cover is perfectly folded (not all were), so the edges meet up dead flush and parallel, that is another major plus-point for the more discerning collector. The top pair are nigh-on perfect, smooth, unscuffed with full laminate retention. The bottom pair, the fine right front rub apart, are practically the same. These also lie flat with no bowing.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Clean, mostly sharp with few traces of wear and both guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced in any way whatsoever. Viewed more critically end-on, minor hints of thickening, but this being somewhat critical indeed for any double set is considerable age. Records enter on these edges that are near exceptional compared to most seen. Beware of covers with no unlaminated strips on the ends, these on such covers were always present, here natural as made, also wide. These vulnerable strips, as stated already, have minimal hints of wear or rubbing.

Spine and Text: Exceptional with full laminate retention and still super-smooth and unscuffed or flaked. Just a tiny chip to the bottom corner tip – few will survive this well. What sets this apart is there is minimal hint of any central recess, with a very high raised inside hinge fold, this will naturally occur. But this cover has not been opened fully and has natural spring, so the spine has survived very well indeed. Solid, straight with minimal hint of compression, also folded perfectly square as mentioned above. No text was printed on this one, but the design flows around and all is PERFECT and unworn under the solid and totally unpeeled laminate One of the girl’s faces is seen in the centre of the spine, so any rubbing or damage would ruin this artwork, but NO issues here, all is pristine which is absolutely crucial. Few will survive with less wear, this spine is highly impressive. The merest hint of a gentle central crease is unavoidable, but I doubt many available ones will have less evidence. This one is almost as g as they get and the difference is immediately apparent.

Corners: Finding one of these with no corner bashes or dinks is very difficult, gatefolds especially seem to attract them. This one has avoided any, small tip rubs yes, but very fine to excellent shape is retained with minimal (bottom left) to no creasing (others). Knowing this cover well, finding all these corners will prove immensely difficult.

Cover Summary: One of the most famous and iconic covers of all time, this does it very high justice – just wish I could show the main outer surfaces to prove the point. The main factors are the lovely shine and lack of major laminate issues – this has real freshness that most lack these days. I am not saying it is pristine or ‘perfect’, as the grading suggests, but is a super example, and I have to reiterate the point as I cannot show it all. This should please many, if not most collectors. Polydor ones are far more common but lack the charisma, history and authenticity that only the Track Ernest J. Day covers really offer. This one really will take some beating.

The Inner Sleeves: Both EXCELLENT(+): just gently aged with mild darkening mostly around the seam adhesive as per most, the odd tiny tone spot elsewhere, but hardly any. These Polydor-style polylined inners are a mirror-image pair with the relative early 1271 (December 1971) date-codes. All four window circles crisp, undamaged and beautifully neat, the linings fresh and clear. All the edges unsplit with no repairs. A little corner creasing to one only and both remain impressive. Nice inners like this always give a good guide to the vinyl – and did not disappoint.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++) a VERY impressive visual pair, available Track copies are seldom seen like this now. Ultra clean, fresh with a beautiful shine, intense black and solidly pressed. The playing surfaces without any dulling or impurity, these are made with top quality vinyl, the difference that makes to audio quality is immense. A pair appearing little played with any surface traces, even under bright angled light, bordering on minuscule. A few super-fine wispy traces or the odd fine h hairline, but no stylus or penetrating marks. Finding all four sides on any Track copy of this record so clean and avoiding trauma and significant marks is some achievement. With sound quality to match the beautiful looks, this is an exceptional pair that look hardly run-in in vinyl terms, even with some visual spindle marks on the labels. These records should please most-all collectors and indeed could prove considerable upgrades for many Hendrix fans.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: Both records play with superb audio quality. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. Any surface sound or blemishes register little, a superb Track pressing with no hidden nasties in very clean unworn grooves and no tracking issues*. The odd trace on any ultra quiet passage nigh-on impossible to avoid – and this album does have several such passages – but barely anything noted here at all – and I politely remind I play ALL my records on very revealing higher-end equipment as listed further down – this is a major factor and important. I consider a true ‘play-grade’ only relevant if played on a quality hi-fi system, thus listing the equipment crucial. Try finding a much cleaner looking and sounding, available example of this monumental double set. This has avoided the ‘Dansette-era’ unscathed, and without any doubt, has never been subjected to any heavy tracking or worn stylus abuse that so many were. One of rock’s most prized and cherished classics and heard here to almost maximum advantage. Both channels are clean, unstressed and fully focused. Even those ultra quiet passages on the long version of ‘Voodoo Chile’ and several areas of side C play cleanly with hardly anything unwanted. I am certain these records have received scant usage and no mishaps. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this evergreen classic. CD copies I have heard are disappointing in comparison, they simply lack the detail, dynamics and historic feel the album demands, and the packaging will never be equalled in any other form. This is the real thing, it was produced and directed by Hendrix and it’s how the great man wanted it to sound – don’t mess with perfection. If your collection is missing this album, don’t hesitate, this copy will prove very difficult to find better for looks and sound, unless items have to be as per ‘brand new’ (and how many ever truly will be?), this beautiful Track set merits strong recommendation. The frustration again is immense when such a lovely example cannot be shown in it’s full glory.

End Piece: A legendary issue, this is a premier league album and artist. A copy that can be played and enjoyed to the the near maximum – this will last indefinitely if played on a modern quality deck and treated with the respect it deserves. Devoid of that dreaded distortion, scratches and groove wear, this will please most-all vinyl lovers, it is unlikely to need upgrading. Again, apologies for not being able to show the excellent cover in full – this with only minor hints of age and still really lovely, many, if not most will enjoy this legendary set.

* As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2.2 grams.

Now one of the most established sellers on Ebay and still offering the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay as I Play-Grade every record I offer in their entirety – also on higher-end equipment – not just bits to guess a grade - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story. I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean it’s good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. Room light factors can make things vary sometimes, that is hard to control, especially in winter. If any picture I take looks more flattering than the actual item for any reason, I will clearly state the fact in the advert and vice-versa. I hope the item below is to your liking - any questions can be emailed and I will do my very best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items - bid with confidence - excellence comes as standard and so does Near Mint regularly. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck – MIKE.

Equipment Used for Play-Grading: I now play-grade ALL the records I offer (unless clearly stated to the contrary) on the following equipment:

Deck: Linn LP12/Hercules/Cirkus with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge (tracks at 2.2 grams). Amps: Naim Supernait 2 with Project USB phono stage and Tellerium Black interconnects. Speakers: B&W 704 Floorstanding 3-way Monitors (bi-wired with Tellurium Black terminated cable). All records I offer on Ebay are cleaned on a professional VPI-17 vacuum machine before play-grading for the cleanest and best possible sound and will include a brand new lined inner and protective cover too. Pictures taken with a Nikon D5000 SLR Digital Camera.

PACKING - THIS IS WHAT YOU GET.

What You Get: To confirm to the strict Ebay rules on shipping, I must now send ALL my packets ‘Signed-For’ with NO exceptions. Both buyers and sellers want their packets to have a safer journey and this is not a bad thing.

I now offer the fastest possible posting, often the very next day after payment is received or within two to three days maximum (unless on holiday). I only use FIRST-CLASS Mail. The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. The boxes are then reinforced with at least TWO, ULTRA THICK stiffeners for maximum extra protection – these are FOUR TIMES thicker than commercial stiffeners and are custom-made for oneadayrecords. Really rare and expensive albums will even be Double Boxed if deemed necessary and possible. When larger boxes are used, the thick record and stiffener ‘sandwich’ is then thickly embedded into bubble-wrap to bulk out the record inside the box to centre the item inside to reduce the risk of damage still further. Printed address labels are used for clarity as well as a sender label. Customers requests or special needs for P&P will be respected if at all possible but ‘Signed-For’ posting is NOT an option anymore. I do not profit on posting, better quality packaging costs, I offer probably the best-value and safest shipping possible for ultimate confidence. The boxes and ultra thick double-wall stiffeners make a near impregnable fortress for safe shipping and this is used inland and overseas for ALL my records, not just the rare and expensive. I will invoice any winning bidder as soon as possible after the auction ends. My ‘loss’ or ‘damage rate’ is minuscule in over 14 years of Ebay trading and I consider that pretty exceptional. The only damage rate acceptable for this seller is ZERO and I think my packets will offer just that. It would take a vicious postman or postal service to damage these for sure. Oneadayrecords is a MAILER-FREE ZONE – they offer next-to-no-protection, and should be banned, no ‘professional’ should consider using them in my opinion. I discount of course for multiple purchases with a maximum of FIVE records per box (one double can sometimes be included subject to total weight). All postage costs are below and at the top of the listing.

NOTE: First Time Bidders: Please ask me first.

PLEASE NOTE: I now exercise my right to open a dispute after the Ebay rule of TWO days if no payment is received. I will then cancel the dispute to end the bid, again after the mandatory FOUR days and then offer the item to the runner-up or relist. The non-payer will also be blocked from my Ebay site as will any suspicious bids or bid withdrawals. Small businesses need prompt payment to trade and these strict rules WILL be applied.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
