Description
"JIMMY RANEY QUARTET Featuring HAL OVERTON" released on NEW JAZZ RECORDS (NJLP-1101) in 1953 as a 10" LP/EP, with pianist Overton and bassist RED MITCHELL among the group. This was guitarist Raney's 1st album! This is the original 1st Pressing (Scan 3 shows label). Scan 1 and 2 show the both sides of the Cover which is in the finest shape of any 50's 10" albums that I've ever seen. Stunning with no wear or defects - NM+!!
The Record comes in a plastic sleeve as most of these do and it was a little bit wrinkled unlike others I've had and particularly hard to get off, with me thinking it was the first time off, which seemed to make sense when I saw what I thought was almost entirely Mint vinyl, though with some squiggle like marks, particularly on the dead wax. On playing there was a persistent medium grade surface noise - no other ticks or other noise - just a continuous surface noise though the music could be heard quite clear above it all. My theory is that this may have been the 1st time it's been taken out and that through the last 50+ years the plastic has affected the vinyl. So I grade it a weak VG+ for surface noise, though the music does cover most of it up (you can hear it clear between songs) while the Vinyl and Cover are Beautiful - but Flawed! Labels are a beaut also (scan 3).
I am also selling other early Jimmy Raney 10" LPs - on Prestige and New Jazz during the next few days.
