BRIEF ARTIST DESCRIPTION

(Scroll Down For Album Details And Supersize Pictures)

John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers are a pioneering English blues band, led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist John Mayall,  The ‘Bluesbreakers’ name was used by Mayall between 1963 and ‘68 then dropped for some fifteen years, in 1982 a ‘Return of the Bluesbreakers’ was announced and it has been kept since then.

The Bluesbreakers were formed in January 1963 and became an ever-evolving lineup of more than 100 different combinations of musicians. Eric Clapton joined in 1965 just a few months after the release of their first album. Clapton brought the blues influences to the forefront of the group, as he had left The Yardbirds in order to play the blues. The group lost their record contract with Decca that year, which also saw the release of a single called “I’m Your Witchdoctor” (produced by Jimmy Page), followed by a return to Decca in 1966. The album Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (also known as The Beano Album because Clapton is shown on the cover photo reading a copy of the comic) was released later that year; it reached the Top Ten in the UK.

Clapton and Jack Bruce left the group that year to form Cream. Clapton was replaced by Peter Green for

A Hard Road, after which he left to form Fleetwood Mac. Finally, in 1969, the third Bluesbreaker-guitarist departed when Mick Taylor joined the Rolling Stones.

With some interruptions, the Bluesbreakers have continued to tour and release albums (over 50 to date), though they never achieved the critical or popular acclaim of their earlier material. In 2003, Eric Clapton, Mick Taylor and Chris Barber reunited with the band for John Mayall’s 70th Birthday Concert in Liverpool.  In November 2008 John Mayall announced on his website he was disbanding the Bluesbreakers to cut back on his heavy workload and give himself freedom to work with other musicians.

 ALBUM DESCRIPTION

'LOOKING BACK''  another of my favourite John Mayall albums, in fact it’s probably my favourite. The album is really a compilation of some of the work recorded by the band in it’s many forms between April 1964 and December 1969. It is a joy to listen to some of the future stars featured in the different line ups of the Bluesbreakers, names like Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, Roger Dean, Aynsley Dunbar, Mick Fleetwood, Peter Green, Keef Hartley, Dick Heckstall - Smith, John McVie, Mick Taylor

Check out track 3, Stormy Monday to see what Eric Clapton was doing between his time with The Yardbirds, and Cream. Check out track 7 It Hurts Me Too and track 8 Double Trouble to see where Fleetwood Mac would shortly be going. Check out track 9 Suspicions (part two) to see what Mick Taylor was doing before he joined the Rolling Stones

.

THE AUDIO

The audio on my systems the audio is superb, no distortion at all, it plays through with no skips, jumps, pops or clicks, apart from the very odd bit of static/quiet ticks it sounds superb in my opinion, in fact I only heard static style ticks in a couple of places on the whole album. (Obviously with an album of this age an odd bit of static has to be allowed for.)  The audio really is fantastic, I would rate the audio as Near Mint.

THE VINYL

On initial visual inspection the vinyl is really superb, the glossy heavy vinyl looks beautiful and lays perfectly flat on the turntable with no sounding needle marks or scratches that have any detrimental effect on the audio, not a hint of groovewear. Only under a angled light can any slight sleeve removal type marks be seen.

THE LABELS

The Decca labels look superb, red and silver original appearance, clean with no marks or writing with a minimal amount of spidering. The spindle holes are perfectly round no signs of wear, exceptionally rare to find in a 41 year old Bluesbreakers record.

THE COVER

The laminated original 1st Press gatefold cover made by Clout & Baker is in great condition with no writing or marks of any kind, there is a small crease to top left rear. There is minimal laminate creasing and a very small amount of laminate lifting at the spine. The colours are absolutely vibrant on the front and rear, the inside looks like new. The corners and edges again are very clean with minimal wear, the spine square and straight with all the writing perfectly clear.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
