Description

This is it – the original, first pressing of the LP Closer (FACT 25), the landmark second and final studio album by Joy Division on black vinyl. It was released on July 18, 1980 through Factory Records, following the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis two months earlier. This is the very first pressing as per Joy Division Centreal with the coarse, textured fibre-board sleeve, the coarse, textured inner fibre-board sleeve with rounded corners and Garrod and Lofthouse in the credits, with “Old Blue?”, A1 & B1 etched into the run-off groove. It has smooth silver and black labels with silver lettering and the Factory logo at 12 o’clock. To my knowledge there is no truth that the translucent red version is the first pressing. The first pressing was done in both black and translucent red. Songs are: Atrocity Exhibition, Isolation, Passover, Colony, A Means To An End, Heart and Soul, Twenty Four Hours, The Eternal, Decades.

Grading: the cover is VG++ to EX with a soft corner bend, side 1 of the record is EX+ and side 2 is visually VG to VG+ with some scratches (plays fine) and the original printed inner sleeve is EX+ with a soft corner bend.
