Description
Jethro Tull AQUALUNG - Classic Records 4LP Single-Sided 200gm Clarity Vinyl 45RPM limited edition of this all-time classic. I purchased this copy around date of release from The Music.Com, which was Classic Records' online retail shop for a few years. Now's your chance to get this LONG out of print rarity at a fair market price!
IMPORTANT: The cover and contents are in EX or better condition. There are two flaws on the rear of the outer box (please see Pictures 11 and 12). The LP cover is in mint/as new condition, as is the lyric sheet.
PLAY-GRADED LISTENING NOTES:
I play-graded this set (listened to the entire LP) and following is a summary:
isn = incidental surface noise nm = dead quiet ANYTHING IN ALL CAPS = A noise event significant enough to merit comment
Record 1 Track 1 - ex: isn in first seconds, tick at 1:06, isn at 1:18, tick at 4:44, isn at 5:13 Track 2 - nm: three ticks/pops in the dead space between Track 1 and 2, a little isn in the first couple seconds, then dead quiet
Track 3 - ex: isn in first seconds, isn at 0:58, tick at 1:12, isn at very end.
Record 2 Track 1 - ex plus: one pop at 3:11, one tick and isn at very end Track 2 - nm: isn at very end Track 3 - nm: isn at the beginning
Record 3 Track 1 - ex: isn around 0:18, isn at 1:05, two ticks at 1:54, isn at 4:09, isn at 5:23, ticks and isn at 6:40 Track 2 - nm
Track 3 - ex plus: isn at 0:17, isn at 0:26, isn at very end
Record 4 Track 1 - nm minus: some isn during a very quiet intro until 1:22, then nm Track 2 - ex: isn at 0:40, tick at 0:58, isn at 1:06, isn at 1:13, isn at 1:55, tick at 3:48, isn at 4:20 and intermittently until the end of track
SUMMARY: The grading for each LP in this set varies by degrees, and overall the record sounds great. HOWEVER, Classic Records' 200gm pressings were always problematic in my experience, and never as consistently quiet as their earlier 180gm pressings. Consequently, this 200gm set was likely to NEVER achieve a Near Mint grade (which is dead quiet vinyl in my terminology)...and you can hear it in the "dead wax" area near the labels. The run out groove is not a section of vinyl that's going to suffer from wear, and if there is any "isn" in the dead wax, then you often have some indication as to the overall quality of the pressing.
Record One ranges from EX to Near Mint, and therefore I've conservatively graded it at EX. Record Two ranges from EX Plus to Near Mint, and averages at Near Mint Minus. Record Three ranges from EX to NM, and averages around EX Plus. Record Four ranges from EX to Near Mint, and conservatively grades at EX. The four LPs combined grade a conservative average of EX Plus.
ABOUT 45 RPM PRESSINGS
A lot of audiophile titles get reissued as 45 rpm sets for several reasons, but the most important one is because they almost universally sound better than a 33 1/3 version.
This is not hype. LPs pressed at 45 rpm offer a wider dynamic range, deeper bass, and sweeter top end. While 33 1/3 offers more convenience (more tracks/time per side before you have to flip the LP over), there are significant tradeoffs, including more compression (particularly as the stylus moves closer to the center) and lower frequency extension (you need physical space to cut deep bass wavelengths into vinyl).
I’ve played “A/B” comparisons for a lot of folks (mostly non-audiophiles), and no one has yet chosen a 33 1/3 title over a 45 rpm version. It is NOT subtle.
ABOUT USED RECORDS I SELL ON EBAY: I will be selling many high value used records over the coming months (or years!). I've been lucky enough to be able to use very high-end cartridges on both my mono and stereo turntables. The cartridges are cleaned before each side is played, and I'm currently using the DS-Audio ST-50 cartridge cleaner.
I clean ALL records, every time, before the platter hits the turntable. I've been doing so for the past 20 years or more, and I am currently fortunate enough to own THE best record cleaning machine in the world: KLAudio's KD-CLN LP200T (Acoustic Sounds uses these machines to clean THEIR used records). Every used record I sell on Ebay is cleaned before I grade the album, and then cleaned AFTER grading so that the buyer receives the LP in the best possible condition. PICTURE 13 SHOWS RECORD ONE OF THE 4LPS, READY FOR CLEANING.
ABOUT SHIPPING AND HANDLING: Please note there is a $3 fee included in Ebay's estimate of Media Mail shipping costs. I believe the best way to way to ship an LP includes a 13"x14"x3" "pizza" style box, 12"x12" cardboard flats, outer shopping bag, and bubble wrap. The shipping boxes alone cost me over $3 each, and the average total cost of shipping materials is around $4.72, so this is NOT a money-maker for me. However, it does ensure, consistently, that these high value LPs arrive safely. Please check my feedback and I think you'll see that buyers appreciate the care with which these precious artifacts are handled.
COMBINED SHIPPING: I am more than happy to combine shipping. Ebay buyers pay the actual postage costs. If a single LP is purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $3 for shipping materials. If two LPs are purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $3 for shipping materials. If three or more LPs are purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $0 for shipping materials (I will absorb the cost of materials). As the final amount can only be calculated after auctions have ended, I will issue the appropriate refund on the day the LPs are shipped.
About Me: I'm a long time Ebay buyer intent on selling a significant portion of my LP collection over the next year or two (or three!). I believe in the auction process, so I'm NOT going to list records at absurdly high prices, and I look forward to getting rare, out of print records into the hands of music lovers, record collectors and audiophiles (I consider myself all of the above). All LPS stored in a smoke-free, climate controlled environment.
Please check my feedback and BID WITH CONFIDENCE. Also, please take a look at other items I'm listing (new items will be listed on Sunday and Wednesday nights), and good luck!
