Description

An original 1968 STEREO 1st issue on Canadian Reprise Tri-Colour label. Canadian 1st issue cover - just taken it out of the shrink! <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Expect a few very superficial markings - more like the bag-rash type. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT with just a couple of deviations. VERY crankable. Turn it up loud and it is [in my humble bat-ear opinion] very tasty indeed. Some Hendrix pressings - even early ones... can be a bit rubbish...lacking life etc etc. This one is very appealing it is - "jumping out of the speakers". Generally a clean player - which means you can hear the full gamut without anything distracting. The only issues I detected was a low level whooshing sound in the gaps between the 1st couple of tracks [side 1]. It doesn't seem audible WITHIN tracks on side 1. Flip the disc over to side 2 - and the whooshing is audible again. This time it is audible during the 1st half of Wind Cries Mary. Not entirely sure what's causing this - but needless to say you only witness it this ONCE within a track. And even then it clears out of the audio relatively quickly. PLEASE be sure this is something you're not going to freak out at. AND a touch of background static in 'May This Be Love' - nothing invasive. For me - given the playback is so good...I can totally live with all of this. Given the vintage, and that this is Hendrix from '68, I would say playback is impressively good.
Cover (Vg+) Well, I just slipped this badboy out of the shrink and let's face it that's the only way you'll ever be seeing an original copy looking anywhere near this well preserved. Most North American copies are going to be looking like sh*t by this point in time. This copy is near perfect on the front with almost no signs of ageing. The rear looks good too with just a shade more ageing evident most noticeable at extremities. BUT please note - there's no surface wear! Take a look at other copies from this period on-line...this is extremely unusual. No edge wear really at all. Spine is 100% intact. Sharp firm openings. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
