Description

Jimi Hendrix Experience:

Electric Ladyland (1968) - Blue Text

Track 613008/9

So often second and third pressings are sold as originals by unknowing sellers when there are very distinct differences between the 1968 pressings and the later 1970/71 pressings on the Track label.

Firstly, the 1st issue Track labels have a slightly different texture to the paper, but the main difference on the labels is the catalogue numbers. On the left side of the centre hole , the catalogue number is repeated in brackets above the bold silver print , in smaller inverted numbers. These end with a capital 'A' or 'B' per side, on both record's labels. This is only found on the first pressing.

The 1st issue gatefold cover has huge differences, the colour tones on the naked ladies are far deeper, with an almost green tinge to the flesh colours , often found on the spine as well.
The most obvious of all is found inside the gatefold. The title's graphics, the track logo and the 'EJ Day' printer's address are in a very vivid blue colour. Every following cover after 1968 had the graphics in a white colour.
Above the blue titles are two pictures of Mitch & Noel. In a 1st issue cover they are large sized photo's , but all later covers have the photo's reduced to a very small size. This too was the format for later Polydor label issues.

CONDITION

The labels are black with silver print. As mentioned this is the first pressing with the inverted catalogue number above the bold number to the left of the spindlehole.

The vinyl has clearly been played a fair bit and is lightly marked in places but plays well without pops, clicks or jumps. This is due to the high grade heavyweight vinyl used in the sixties with deep grooves.

The laminated gatefold picture sleeve is in good condition on both sides, with just some light creasing through being kept stored away in one place for so long. There is some damage to the top half of the spine. This is the very first 1968 picture sleeve with blue writing inside the gatefold and large pictures of Mitch and Noel. The sleeve has crisp laminate and unworn edges.

A classic album in fairly decent condition overall. It is not Mint but it is at least G+, if not VG.

Mint copies I have seen go for £300 - I should know, I paid that for one 3 years ago. If you are a serious Hendrix collector, you simply have to own this album and this is a great chance to get it without going bankrupt.

No reserve and very low opening bid.
