Description

First released in the UK for the Xmas market 1968. Matrix A2/B2-A1/B2... I would estimate this copy is from late '69. Approx 12 months after 1st release. Please note that some pressings can vary in pressing weight - this one is SOLID. The vinyl comes housed in an original 1st issue cover "white text version". By 1st I mean - this was the ORIGINAL design - and was being used, still, 12 month later. There was a brief flirtation with a 'Blue Text' re-working at 1st issue - but this is effectively an aborted design [hence its collectability]. We have original two original inner sleeves from the time - I suspect the inner sleeves actually date from 1970 around the period Hendrix passed away. Note the press clippings attached from this period.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In lovely condition considering the title and the vintage. Usually EL has been murdered by this point in time. But the surfaces are lovely and shiny and pretty unmarked. Not perfect, but WAY better than what you usually see. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with just one deviation. Conceived in stereo and most certainly with a view to show off what stereo studio effects could do. Don't go looking for a mono version - ha! I tend to find original copies do surface, but they can be a bit iffy. This title was often played to death and owners were not necessarily wise to the fact that they were in possession of something that would be seen as a major collectable in just 20-30 years time. But someone's been very careful with this copy. I'm not really picking up any background at all. It's a surprisingly clean rendition. And remember - that's four sides of vinyl. An owner had to be careful and careful across four whole sides. As a result we have a very finely preserved original copy here. The audio quality is superb and does a fantastic job of revealing Hendrix's masterful work - and some fab studio trickery. I could only pick a few crackles in one isolated spot per side. That really is an extremely good strike rate. And just a couple of ticks in a couple of spots in the backward devil talk at the start of side 1. Can't really knock it.. I wish all copies surfaced like this. Unfortunately that's just not the case...This is probably one of the best examples of this title I've witnessed.
Cover (Vg+) Again this cover tends to suggest a careful owner - most examples are usually knackered. A few thumbnail creases toward the opening on the front. The rear is looking pretty clean. The spine is usually heavily worn - But NOT HERE. It's not perfect, but it has retained its square structure and exhibiting little wear. Full lamination has protected the interior and it looks fab. There's a bit of edge wear, but relatively little and much less than you typically tend to find. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A bit of ageing in places. Note the pasted on Press clippings. No splits.
