Joe Venuto & Quartet “Sounds Different” light jazz STEREO Everest SDBR 1053 LP NM-
Mono copies abound on ebay, but stereo--an NM to boot--is extremely rare. Bronx-born Joe Venuto (1929-1973) played with the Sauter-Finegan band in the 1950s and here plays marimba and vibes with his quartet of guitar, bass, drums, and other percussion--along with vocals by his wife, Sandi Blaine on this 1960 Everest disc. The cover is sort of psychedelic before that era. Stereo (Everest’s dandy 35mm Magnetic Film sound) is essential to appreciating the full effect of Venuto’s crisp and vibrant café-jazz on this LP.
