IN THE

COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING

AN OBSERVATION BY

KING CRIMSON

UK ISLAND PINK RIM ILPS. 9111

A-2 - B-2

Here is a really brilliant early uk A2-B2 textured label pink rim pressing of King Crimson's essential 1969 debut prog rock album. The excellent quality thick chunky vinyl is unmarked and it looks, plays and sounds superb throughout. The matt gatefold cover is in excellent condition and the textured island labels are in very clean and tidy condition and simply cannot be faulted.

This is probably the best playing and sounding copy of 'In The Court Of The Crimson King' that i have ever come across, even the ultra quiet tracks 'Moonchild' and 'The Dance Of The Puppets' play and sound amazing throughout with barely even a trace of crackle at all. This album plays with a stunning very powerful sound quality that would be very hard to better. This is the perfect cheaper alternative to spending hundreds of pounds on a uk pink 'i' label pressing in the same condition.

This superb early second issue has a few things worth pointing out that i have not come across on other copies. First of all the matt gatefold sleeve has no makers name printed anywhere, early uk covers were made by E.J.Day and later ones were printed up by Robor but this uk sleeve has no mention at all as to who, when or where it was made. Secondly, the thick chunky vinyl has no visible dead wax segregation between any of the tracks, so each side actually looks like just one single track, i have never seen this on any other copies and i think it is pretty unusual. Perhaps somebody with more knowledge of uk island album pressings may know more about this issue.

as advertised.

THICK STEREO VINYL = NM

The thick chunky stereo vinyl is in brilliant near mint condition and looks as close to new as you will find. Both sides have a really excellent original deep glossy sheen, there are no surface marks, scuffs or scratches at all. This album has been barely played so the only traces of use are just a few ultra light sleeve withdrawal traces that can only be seen in much stronger light. As already mentioned, unusually there is no dead wax segregation between any tracks on either side at all.

The audio on all tracks is really outstanding and the sound quality is the best and most powerful that i have heard on a copy of this album. There is barely even a trace of background crackle to be heard throughout the entire album, even the ultra delicate quiet track 'Moonchild' plays and sounds amazing with hardly a sign of background crackle at all. The sound is rich and thick and cannot be faulted. This is simply the best playing/sounding copy of this album that i have ever come across.

TEXTURED PINK RIM LABELS = NM

Both textured pink rim labels are in brilliant clean condition and look brand new. These labels just cannot be faulted at all.

MATT GATEFOLD SLEEVE = EX+

The very earliest uk gatefold covers for this album were made and printed by E.J.Day and the later uk pink rim issues came in a sleeve made and printed by Robor. Unusually this uk matt gatefold sleeve has no makers name printed anywhere on the cover, but i know by the colours used that this cover is the same as the E.J.Day sleeve, the early E.J.day covers were dark blue on the inside gatefold but the later Robor cover had a completely different shade of blue on the inside, the blue used was really light and looked nothing like the original.

Condition wise, this gatefold is in excellent condition inside and out. The front and back are in superb condition apart from just one small very narrow white mark right near the back bottom edge, this can be clearly seen in the photos provided. The top edges are near perfect and the bottom just has a few minute areas of shelf wear. The spine is strong, straight and true with no wear and all text is clear and easy to read. This matt gatefold cover looks really brilliant and is in very near perfect condition. The white poly-lined inner sleeve is in excellent clean condition.

I pack my records very well, the album will be removed from the outer cover to avoid seem/edge splits in transit, plenty of rigid cardboard support will be used to avoid corners bending, this album will reach you in the same condition as advertised.
