Description
Up for sale is a very unusual 78 RPM, 10 inch, shellac single record with two songs performed by "The First Lady of Radio", Kate Smith. Of particular interest is the extreme care this record received from its prior owner. The record has been cleverly mounted on a stiff piece of heavy cardstock (cardboard) using four independent string ties and then SEALED in a plastic bag. This disc must have had a very special significance to its owner! From what I can see, it is in outstanding condition, since it has not been subjected to the usual wear and tear.

As mentioned, this record has, very intentionally, been carefully preserved. It is mounted on a sturdy square of heavy cardstock (cardboard) using four separate strings, each independent of the other. The strings are spaced at 90 degree intervals around the record. Each string is threaded through the center hole of the record and looped around the edge of the record. The two ends of each string are then threaded through tiny holes at the center and near the edges of the card stock; the ends are tied together on the back of the card stock. The mounted record, together with a Columbia record sleeve, have been enclosed in a clear plastic envelope which is actually sealed shut. (The sleeve may be the original. It references the OPA, or Office of Price Administration, which existed from 1941 to 1947 as the government's agency to control prices during World War II.) Please see above for full description of condition and for photos. (NOTE: I am only able to examine one side of the record and to do so only through the clear plastic envelope in which it is sealed. For the same reason, I am unable to play test this record.) Sold as is.
