Description

redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This rare LP from Alco (ALP-1004, US pressing, green label, mono) features the legendary Kolisch Quartet in their pathfinding recording of Arnold Schoenberg’s String Quartet No. 3 Op. 30, recorded at the United Artsts Music Recording Studio, Stage 7, Holllywood, California on 30 December 1936 (producer: Alfred Newman / engineer: Frank Maher).

The Kolisch Quartet were comprised of Rudolf Kolisch (1st violin), Felix Khuner (2nd violin), Eugene Lehner (viola), and Benar Heifetz (cello).

Not only is this an extraordinary historical document (recordings made in the presence of the composer), it remains, some 80 years later, a truly fascinating and richly musical experience.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is GOOD. There is 3” seamsplit to the lower edge, considerable edgewear, particular at corners, some small tears to the front panel, and general shelfwear. However, the album remains and solid and presentation worthy – not a collector's copy, but still a decent one.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and the playback is enjoyable. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
