ORIGINAL UK ATLANTIC DELUXE (2401 002) RED/PLUM PRESSING OF LED ZEPPELIN'S THIRD LP - TECHNICALLY THE SECOND PRESSING WITH THE PETER GRANT PRODUCTION CREDIT ABSENT FROM THE TOP HALF OF THE LABEL BUT THIS WAS REMOVED VERY QUICKLY AND THIS COPY STILL DATES FROM WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF RELEASE AND IT SOUNDS SENSATIONAL THROUGHOUT (ON MY SYSYEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME) - CLEAN, SHARP, FRESH AND INCREDIBLY STRONG
PRESSED ON QUALITY MID-WEIGHT VINYL WITH THE UK ATLANTIC RED/PLUM LABELS
MATRIX: 2401002 A-5 12 11 ("DO WHAT THOU WILT") / 2401002 B-5 15 16 ("SO MOTE IT BE") - all etched - LIKE ALL EARLY UK PRESSINGS, TWO CRYPTIC MESSAGES WERE SCRIBED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES BY TERRY MANNING, THE VINYL CUTTER/ CO-SOUND ENGINEER, ON JIMMY PAGE'S REQUEST. THEY WERE TAKEN FROM ALEISTER CROWLEY'S BOOK, "Philosophy Of Thelema", THE MAIN PASSAGE IS: "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. Love is the law, love under will". "There is no law beyond do what thou wilt."
AND THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL, DEEPLY GLOSSY, FULLY LAMINATED UK GATEFOLD COVER "Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford" WITH A FULLY FUNCTIONAL SPINNING WHEEL
COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVE WITH 'PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS...', BRITISH PATENT NUMBER AND 'MADE IN ENGLAND' PRINTED IN BLUE TEXT
On their first two albums, Led Zeppelin unleashed a relentless barrage of heavy blues and rockabilly riffs, but Led Zeppelin III provided the band with the necessary room to grow musically.
While there are still a handful of metallic rockers, III is built on a folky, acoustic foundation that gives the music extra depth.
And even the rockers aren't as straightforward as before: the galloping "Immigrant Song" is powered by Robert Plant's banshee wail, "Celebration Day" turns blues-rock inside out with a warped slide guitar riff, and "Out on the Tiles" lumbers along with a tricky, multi-part riff.
Nevertheless, the heart of the album lies on the second side, when the band delve deeply into English folk.
"Gallows Pole" updates a traditional tune with a menacing flair, and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" is an infectious acoustic romp, while "That's the Way" and "Tangerine" are shimmering songs with graceful country flourishes.
The band hasn't left the blues behind and the twisted bottleneck blues of "Hats off to (Roy) Harper" is stunning and the epic "Since I've Been Loving You," is one of their finest original blues tracks

LABELS: The labels are clean and bright with no marks or unwanted writing and moderate spindle traces - played but not over-played and extremely well handled - EXCELLENT
VINYL Visual: The surfaces are clean with a deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - EXCELLENT+
VINYL Audio: The audio quality is absolutely sensational throughout - crystal clear, deep, rich and vibrant - full of restless energy and excitement, and on playback at a very loud volume there are no major audio issues to report - no scratches, no sticks/jumps, just a few light clicks on the quiet beginning of 'Since I've Been Loving You' and 'Gallows Pole' (but only for a couple of seconds and nothing I found at all intrusive) otherwise, the quieter passages play beautifully with no real surface noise to speak of. There is also no discernible groove-wear or distortion present. Overall a very fine playing copy and critically graded EXCELLENT for audio
SLEEVE: The sleeve is also in great shape with a fully functioning and attached spinning wheel and the edges and spine display little wear - all spine text clear and bold. There is a tiny tear just underneath the wheel on the opening edge (please see close-up photo) but in the overall excellence of this sleeve I would say that this is a very minor issue - EXCELLENT
INNER SLEEVE: The original plain white poly-lined inner has no tears or splits, just some creasing and slight age discolouration - EXCELLENT
