Description
LED ZEPPELIN IV (UNTITLED) LP RARE Very 1st UK Peter Grant Credit, Inverted Feather
ATLANTIC - 2401012 - 1971 - UK VERY 1ST LABEL ISSUE
2401012 A//3 B//3 matrix numbers with 'Pecko Duck' and 'Porky' etched in the run-outs.
Not only is this the earliest and rarest version of Led Zep IV, this is also in superb condition.
This has the following 1st press earliest matrix numbers:
SIDE ONE: 2401012 A // 3 1 1 PECKO DUCK
SIDE TWO: 2401012 B // 3 1 1 PORKY
This copy features the very first label design, before any changes were made and is the Holy Grail for Led Zep IV. It was only used for a very short time on a small number of early copies, has the earliest matrices and is among the hardest to find of any Led Zeppelin rarities.
The labels on Led Zeppelin IV were changed shortly after this record was first released to remove the credit for Peter Grant as Executive Producer and add Superhype to the publishing credits. This required a 're-design' of the label as some other things on the labels needed to be moved around - most notably the positioning of the band's name, and the correction of the inverted feather on the side two label.
This the earliest and rarest version of Led Zeppelin IV.
The signifiers of this very rare 1st label are as follows:
- Original plum & red labels with 'Led Zeppelin' stated at the bottom (later issues have moved it to the top of label)
- Peter Grant producer credit on label (later issues state only Jimmy Page)
- Feather symbol is upside down on side 2 label (an error only seen on the very 1st label print run and corrected on later issues)
- No Superhype publishing credit (added to later issues)
- 'Under license from...' credit is on the red part of the label (later issues move it to the white band)
Detailed Description
Vinyl:
The vinyl looks superb and has retained its original high sheen. Under bright light, only one or two whispy hairlines and fine marks were visible, but these have no audible impact. Labels:
Rare, original very first issue label layout, including the inverted feather on side two. The labels are very clean. There is no damage, writing, stickers etc, just a few light spindle trails.
Sleeve:
Original gatefold sleeve. No damage, writing, splits, tears or stickers etc and just light signs of use. There are minor signs of handling and light shelf wear with a few small marks, but there is nothing significant anywhere. This is a very presentable example of this original cover and hard to find like this.
Inner sleeve:
Original textured grey inner sleeve with exposed flipbacks. Very clean example with no writing or creases. As is common there is a small seam split to right and bottom, not noticeable until close inspection.
This is a superb example of the GENUINE first pressing of Led Zep IV.
Vinyl will be sent in a brand new Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab inner sleeve and will be well packed using only the highest quality oversize record mailing box with stiffeners that protects the record and sleeve corners, which can often be damaged.
