Description

ARTISTES:  LED ZEPPELIN

TITLE:  "Soundcheck at Chicago Stadium 5th July 1973" LP.  Cat No Timpani SLZ30.

DESCRIPTION:   Well, what can you say about this unique band that hasn't already been said or talked about a million times or more already ?  Led Zeppelin was the definitive heavy metal band with their hugely loud interpretation of the blues but it was also their incorporation of mysticism, mythology and folk that gave them their unique sound.  The group was formed out of the ashes of The Yardbirds (the first group I ever saw when I was a mere 11 years old in 1965).  Jimmy Page had joined the band in its final days and John Paul Jones was also involved with their final album.  In the summer of 1968 The Yardbirds had an obligation to tour Scandinavia but most of the original line-up had disbanded leaving Jimmy Page and bassist Chris Dreja to do the decent thing.  Robert Plant joined the band in August 1968 after being recommended by Terry Reid and Chris Dreja left to be replaced by John Paul Jones on bass.  John Bonham then joined up after being recommended by Plant, the two having played together in a previous band.  As the New Yardbirds this line-up fulfilled The Yardbirds' touring commitments in late September 1968.  In October the band changed its name to Led Zeppelin and the rest, as they say, is history.  The first self titled album was recorded at the end of 1968 and released in January 1969.  Throughout 1969 they toured almost non-stop in the USA and England.  Whilst on the road the second LP was recorded and released in October 1969.  Both albums were immediate hits with Led Zeppelin 2 going to No 1 in the US charts.  Led Zeppelin 3, released in October 1970, veered more towards the acoustic side and was more folk orientated than the previous two overtly heavier albums.  The fourth LP or "Four Symbols" as it is sometimes known was the bands' most musically diverse offering so far and featured hard driving rock'n roll together with gentler folk styles.  After completing their 1972 tour, the band retreated into the recording studio for their fifth LP, "Houses Of The Holy", released in the spring of 1973 and the success of this album set the scene for a record breaking American tour.  Throughout the 1973 tour they broke box office records, most of which had been previously held by The Beatles, everywhere.  This probable bootleg album is believed to have been issued in 1990 and features the soundcheck prior to the concert at the Chicago Stadium on 5th July 1973 during that monumental tour.  It features songs of the late 1950's - early 1960's rock and roll standards and an early version of The Wanton Song which did not appear on official release until 1976's "Physical Graffiti" and a version of "Meet Me In The Morning".  The full track listing is:- Side 1, track 1) School Days/Nadine. 2) Round And Round. 3) Move On Down The Line. 4) Please Don't Tease. 5) Move It. 6) Shakin' All Over. 7) Hungry For Love. 8) I'll Never Get Over You. 9) Reelin' And Rockin'/Surrender.  Side 2, track 1) Untitled. 2) The Wanton Song. 3) Untitled. 4) Meet Me In The Morning.

CONDITION:  The LP picture sleeve is in MINT MINUS condition, the colouring all bright and it is intact.  There is only some very, very slight ring wear on the front and rear and is barely noticeable.  The record is MINT, the sound is very clear with almost silent run-in grooves.  The label is clean and bright and is MINT, no writing or other damage evident and little evidence of spindle marks around the centre hole.  This record may not have been played too many times at all, the vinyl still has that as new lustre about it.

GRADINGS EXPLAINED: As taken from The Record Collector Rare Record Price Guide.

MINT:  The record is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT:  The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and tear.

VERY GOOD:  The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

N.B.  The addition of PLUS or MINUS to the above indicates an "in-between" grading.
