Lewis James was born in Dexter, Michigan on July 29, 1892. He recorded extensively as a soloist, duet partner, and quartet lead singer. His first recording with the Shannon Four (aka the Shannon Quartet) was the World War I chestnut, "All Aboard For Home Sweet Home." Like many of his colleagues, he proved exceedingly versatile in recording love ballads, hymns, children's songs, and the more sophisticated early jazz harmonies of the Revelers with whom he made several successful European tours.
This record is one of three that he cut as part of a series called 'Songs For Little People.' This was in 1927 and was part of Victor's new ORTHOPHONIC series – expensive records for expensive machines. Children's records typically got pretty hammered, but this one is in remarkable condition, and also has these unusual full-color labels – a different one on each side. This is part 5 & 6 from the series and are a collection of many children's songs that are rapidly being lost in the new century. Songs here are :
