JINETES EN EL CIELO (aka RIDERS IN THE SKY) / VIRGEN NEGRA ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by LOS BABYS. Original Mexican pressing on the PEERLESS label (8698), from 1966. Futuristic garage beat by this cult Mexican group. A desirable and important recording from the Mexican rock 'n' roll / strange pop scene. Features an insane version of Riders In The Sky (re-titled as JINETES EN EL CIELO) full of unusual sci-fi noises / crazed loops and samples with tape manipulation / echo chamber / dub FX / spaced-out jukebox jam guitar vamps etc. Surprisingly contemporary and alternative in places. Eccentric and experimental like an exotic Joe Meek production with an obvious, latin cowboy cum spaghetti western feel. The DIY electronics even have that Jean Jacques Perrey / Cecil Leuter / Pierre Henry sound. Great for DJs with booming production and old skool, Mario Molino I Beats feel too. Comped on Epoca De La Nueva Ola Yeye Y Gogo for the Disco Fuentes label. The VIRGEN NEGRA side is groovy Los Babys with psychedelic influences of the period. Seldom comes up for sale in top condition. We doubt you'll find a better copy than this one ;) Rare 45!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in strong VG++ condition (closer to shiny M-) with some hairlines and a couple of scuffs from sleeve removal. Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of the soundclip. The custom Peerless label paper sleeve is in VG+ condition with archive sticker / archive number in pen (front and back) and some general wear and tears from storage. Rare 45!!!
