Description
Led Zeppelin III on the UK Atlantic label from around the time of release in 1970. Matrix A7/B5. Etchings - 'So Mote It be'/'Do What Thou Wilt'. The record comes housed in an original cover printed in the USA with the original poly-lined inner sleeve. There is some conjecture as to whether original UK copies with a US made cover have been switched, or whether Atlantic used some of the US covers here in the UK due to the earlier release date in the states. I don't have all the answers I'm afraid - what I can tell you is this is a 1970 original widespine cover 'SD7201' [the very first cataloge number for Zep III], from the time of the release, and has been made to the same standard/specs as the UK copies.
Cover (Ex-) Remains in terrific condition - these early copies often end up a bit tired looking, but this one has survived the years particularly well. Front and rear only have some light signs of ageing and edge wear. The spinning wheel is entirely intact and operational. The text on the spine is all perfectly readable. Overall the cover also maintains excellent rigidity. Difficult to find in much better condition than this...
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) The labels are absolutely stunning and the vinyl surface is shiny like new. A close inspection of the surface reveals a couple of very light marks - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a VERYGOOD+ level of playback on S1 and an EXCELLENT one on S2. Intros and inbetweens are very quiet and the audio comes across with really good clarity. The sound reproduction on these early copies really is a testament to the quality of manufacture. Audio quality is still near excellent on Side 1, but there are some audible light static crackles in places. They're minor for the most part, a little more noticeable in 'Since I've Been Loving You', and never really impinge on the sound. Side 2, on the other hand, really delivers the goods in spades.....lush presentation and very little interference at all. A thoroughly enjoyable rendition of, personally, my favourite Zeppelin album...
Inner Sleeve (Ex-) Great condition...Very little ageing at all. No splits at all.
