"Exile in Guyville" is American indie rock singer-songwriter Liz Phair's debut album. It was released on June 22nd, 1993 to widespread critical and commercial success, still appearing today in many critics' best-of lists. It is also considered a landmark in alternative rock music. As of July 2010, the album had sold 491,000 copies. It was the number one album in the year-end critics poll in Spin and the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll. The videos for "Never Said" and "Stratford-On-Guy" received airplay on MTV. By the spring of 1994, it had peaked at #196 on the Billboard 200 and was Matador's most successful release so far. The album inspired a number of imitators, and the lo-fi sound and emotional honesty of Phair's lyrics were frequently cited by critics as outstanding qualities. VH1 named "Exile in Guyville" the 96th Greatest Album Of All-Time. In 2003, the album was ranked number 328 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Albums Of All-Time. Phair commented in interviews that the album was a song-by-song reply to the Rolling Stones' 1972 album "Exile on Main Street". This is the ORIGINAL 1993 US Double Vinyl Pressing on the Matador Label. The Catalog # is: OLE051-1. Cover is visually graded by Goldmine standards as a strong VG++ as well as both vinyls. I have never played these records as I have had this on cd. I also knew it was collectable as an "important" indie record to have.
