Description
Welcome! Here is a very nice first UK press of May Blitz The Second of May (Vertigo 6360 037). This 1971 album is seen with both the original “large” swirl label and the later “small” swirl; this one has the large swirl! Overall condition is quite good, especially the vinyl. Also present is the original date-coded swirl inner sleeve, fully intact.
Matrix numbers and mother/stamper codes are:
Side 1: 6360037 1Y//1?420 12 3 04.
Side 2: 6360037 2Y//1?420 11 3 04.
Using the Record Collector grading system, what do we have here?
Sleeve: Overall, the outside white cover has stayed pretty white, with only minor areas of aging/discoloration. On the front, there is a minor crease in the upper right corner, visible only if the light catches it a certain way. There is a small patch of surface loss to the left of the Vertigo logo, surely due to a price sticker removal (see the close-up photo of this). The back has a minor crease in the upper left corner, and only faint traces of ring wear. The inside of the gatefold is in fine condition, with only minor creasing.
All edges and the spine are strong, with virtually no wear. There is only VERY minor wear to the corners. The sleeve is unsigned. All in all, the sleeve conservatively grades Very Good.
Vinyl: Visually, the vinyl is lovely, with NO scratches or hairlines! And the album plays accordingly, except for the last song on Side 2 (“Just Thinking”), which has some occasional crackling and a few pops. So, Very Good- for this one track; the rest of the album easily grades Excellent+++.
Labels: Both swirl labels are strong, with virtually no spindle tracking to the Side 1 label and only average tracking to the Side 2 label. And, again, we have a LARGE Side 2 swirl label here! There is a faint greenish taint behind the word ‘Vertigo’ at the bottom of the Side 2 label, as if it were once covered with a sticker or piece of tape, but there is no surface paper loss.
Inner Sleeve: This album has its original plastic-lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve, dated-coded ‘0171’! The black has faded a bit, it has typical age discoloration and glue stains, and a small seam split on one side, but is otherwise intact. The plastic lining remains firmly secured.
And, in the end: Put this puppy on your turntable, cue up “For Mad Men Only,” and AMP IT UP! Absolutely peerless power trio music from the Good Old Days, yet balanced with some acoustic guitar as well. You will like it! Please email me with any questions.
A Note on the Photos: Unless otherwise stated, any bright spots or glare in my pictures is from my camera’s flash.
Returns: Full return privileges (less shipping and listing fee) if dissatisfied, but I bet you won’t be! Please pay by PayPal. About Me: I am not a dealer, but a longtime collector in the occasional process of dispersing my collection of English and German prog, rock, and blues albums.Shipping: I will ship to ANY country on Earth! Just be aware that items shipped from the USA to some countries (such as Brazil and Russia) can require several weeks to arrive at their destination. Please be patient.
If your country of residence is known to experience occasionally difficult deliveries, please consider paying for signature-required delivery. Some sellers already mandate this. Me, I do not make this a requirement, but if I have a receipt from the Vestal, New York, post office confirming my shipment to you, that is the end of my delivery responsibility.
Pursuant to my statement above that I am not a dealer, I do NOT gouge anyone on shipping costs. If you are in the USA, figure on $4.00 for Media Mail; of course, you can do Priority, Overnight, you name it.
For shipments outside the USA, I generally use the value that eBay shows for First Class Mail International, although if I believe that my packing – which I pride myself on – will likely knock the cost up to the next price level, that is what I will go with initially. If the actual postage price turns out to be less, I will post an immediate refund for the difference. Please take a look at my feedback; no one has ever had an issue with my items or their shipping cost.
Insurance: If you would like, I will get an insurance quote for you. I pack things very well, but if you choose to not buy insurance, I will not be responsible if something nasty happens.
Namaste, everyone!
