Mehr Pouya was a famous Iranian pop/folk musician in 60s and 70s. Some time in early 70s he developed a taste for learning how to play the sitar and incorporate it in Persian music. Persian and Indian classical and folk musics do share similar sides but these two traditions are quite different in the contemporary sense i.e. they are not as close as they are thought to be. So, he was a bit of a pioneer in his time when incorporating sitar since sitar was not a popular instrument in Iran. He has released some absolutely beautiful records which has Indian instruments (foremost, sitar and tabla) which he mixed with his western sense of "song" structure and Persian ghazal. That's why his records are great stuff to track down if you are into eastern psychedelia!

This is from his most mature period. Soul Raga is beyond words. Absolutely brilliant, spine tingling sitar funk in afro sounding style from an Iranian band! You can't do better to find a meaning to the term "other worldly"! B side is one of his beautiful psychedelic ballads! Just gorgeous. Cover is M-. Disc visually is EX but plays with a thin consistent surface hiss, coming form the original pressing. No reserve!!!
