Description
From 1972 ....The Moody Blues' 'Seventh Sojourn' (THS 7). Released on the band's very own record label (Threshold Records), it would become the group's last album before they all took a 6-year break from touring and recording as a unit. Though by this time the band had achieved a healthy measure of success, 'Seventh Sojourn' was a difficult record to complete. Intense and non-stop touring had taken its toll. However, the music on this record belies any problems members within the band were having. From the first song to the last, the recording and quality of the compositions are simply magnificent. The song that kicks off the album, "Lost In a Lost World", seems even more relevant today than ever. It is, in one word.... a masterpiece.
On offer....the highly sought after half-speed mastered Japanese pressing released by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in August of 1984. The audio from this pressing is clear, detailed, balanced, and distortion-free. The bass guitar in particular is tight and well defined. As well, there are nuances and subtleties in the recording that you will only hear with this pressing. Simply put, this is the best version on vinyl of this timeless album you will find. In addition, it is the rarer first issue which has a beautiful, matte, slightly "textured" gatefold cover. (Reissues had cheaper, printed-on glossy covers with washed out colors and pressed on thinner vinyl)
Gatefold Jacket: Excellent(+) ....In fact, if not for a small area of imperfection (where a price sticker had been removed?) at top right (see photos) this cover would easily grade a solid near mint. Due to the beautiful (but fragile) textured bond used for this cover, it is easily damaged and soiled from excessive handling. Somehow, this one has managed to escape most of these problems. Barely any edge and spine wear...and the subtle colors of the artwork are still bright and reveal the beauty of Phil Travers's original artwork. The inner gatefold is as good as it gets....a beautiful example and one that will be hard to upgrade unless purchased sealed; and then you're usually talking about $400 ~ $500.00+
