Finger Paintings by Earl Klugh UHQR MFSL 1-025 LIKE NEW and Record 289 of 0nly 5,000 for Worldwide Distribution

One Record of only 8 UHQR (Ultra High Quality Recording) Records made by MFSL with Super Vinyl and pressed by JVC in Japan

This album and the other 7 UHQR titles are simply the best pressings or records ever made and cannot be reproduced

In the 1950s and 1960s, it was common for record labels to press relatively heavy records on virgin vinyl. Through the oil crisis and economic downturn of the 1970s, the cost of record pressing increased. As a result, record labels opted to press light weight vinyl out of recycled material (which contains impurities). This resulted in releases that contained pops, clicks and high levels of surface noise. Additionally, mastering engineers would often compromise the sound of the original tape by applying some equalization, dynamic range compression and groove velocity limitation when cutting a record, in order to ensure that the album was playable even on low grade consumer equipment. Sound quality could also vary based on production run or geographic region, as the stampers were cut from different generation tapes.

In 1977, Mobile Fidelity began offering a line of Original Master Recording LPs - re-issued albums of popular rock and pop acts. These albums were all cut at 1/2 speed from the original tapes, using no compression or velocity limiting (equalization was used, however). The records were then pressed on JVC Supervinyl. Sleeves featured glossy, detailed artwork reproductions on heavy cardboard and plastic liner sleeves.

Early MFSL titles were pressed by JVC in Japan on virgin "SuperVinyl" vinyl. JVC originally developed this proprietary plastic compound in the early 1970s to reduce record wear on LP records. Supervinyl is a harder and more durable vinyl formula than traditional formulas. The pressings exhibit a very low surface noise, as well as less pops and clicks. Supervinyl is proprietary JVC technology, which was discontinued in the late 1980s.

Finger Paintings Reviews

This collection is an exemplary sample of this artist's technical as well artistic virtousity. These compositions have earned him many royalties as well as enriching Mr.Klugh artistically. Finger Paintings, Dr. Macumba, and the other compositions penned by Earl Klugh have achieved cult status. Though not not widely known by the general public, you have no doubt heard his music on television shows and elevators the world over. His playing has a Segovia-like ring that absorbs the listener in a subtle and mysterious manner. The special gold recordings may be just a gimmick to get you to pay extra for what essentially sounds like a regular CD, audiophiles notwithstang, I would go for the regular CD. But, if you have a $1500+ stereo and and nothing better to do with your money, then by all means, enjoy!!!

This has always been one of my favorite disks -- a breakthrough for Klugh. I bought this album on vinyl when it first came out in he '70s, and later purchased the CD. It's truly magical ... to my ears its music never grows old or tiresome. The supporting group of musicians, including Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, and Steve Gadd, et al., are superb. This is Klugh at his very best!

I purchased 2 copies of this record when released, this one I opened and recorded with Ortofon MC30 onto tape with Revox A77.  The other Sealed record is also For Sale, check my other Listings
