MICHAEL GARRICK QUINTET – “OCTOBER WOMAN” – DA 33
1965 mono recording on Argo yellow/silver label catalogue number DA 33. The Michael Garrick Quintet comprise Michael Garrick (piano), Coleridge Goode (bass), Colin Barnes (drums), Joe Harriott (alto-sax) and Shake Keane (trumpet). The tunes were written specifically for these musicians. Tracks, Side 1: Seven Pillars, Little Girl, Sweet and Sugary Candy, Blue Scene (trio only), Anthem. Side 2: Return of an Angel (Trio only), Sketches of Israel, October Woman, Echoes, Fairies of Oneiros (Trio only).
The disc is clean and shiny. Side 1 has no visible marks but produces occasional ticks (mostly very light). Side 2 has a faint mark on track 1 but this does produce about a dozen loud ticks plus some background noise. We stress this only affects track 1 and the rest of the side is excellent with an occasional random light tick. Overall the sound quality is great. Laminate sleeve is intact with some unsightly creases.
