MOUNTAIN Climbing 1970 Windfall 1st Press STERLING RL LH 4501 Mississippi Queen

Mountain's debut studio album as a full band arrived in early 1970 and hit immediately.

Climbing! introduced the world to Leslie West's massive guitar tone and the rock-solid rhythm section of Felix Pappalardi and Corky Laing.

“Mississippi Queen" became the signature track — a hard rock anthem built on Corky Laing's cowbell intro and West's searing riff that still cuts through fifty-five years later.

The album also carries "Theme for an Imaginary Western," written by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown, and the extended workout "Never in My Life."

This is an original US first pressing on Windfall Records (WINDFALL 4501).

The lacquers were cut at Sterling Sound by both Lee Hulko and Robert Ludwig.

Side One carries the initials of both Lee Hulko and Robert Ludwig — LH and RL — stamped alongside the STERLING facility mark.

Side Two carries the STERLING stamp.

Lee Hulko founded Sterling Sound in 1968 and built it into one of New York's premier mastering facilities. Robert Ludwig joined Sterling in mid-1969 and went on to become one of the most celebrated mastering engineers in rock history. Having both engineers' hands on this lacquer is a genuine point of distinction.

Pressed at Bestway Products and distributed by Bell Records, a division of Columbia Pictures Industries. The gatefold sleeve opens to full band photos inside.
