This auction is for one of the most sought after pieces among Metallica collectors. It is the "Fade to Black" 12 inch Promo Only ED5042. This was distributed to local radio stations back in January of 1985 and it caught a nation unprepared for what must naturally follow. This song played a defining role in Metallica's initial rise, and it still a standard in all setlists wherever they tour.
It is offered here in its original form, being a 12" day-glo green. I have looked at this record long and hard and have been unable to find any surface markings at all and give a NM rating.
The sleeve carries the famed Friday Morning Quarterback Album Report, and for those of you unfamiliar with this I list it here for your education. Jerry Gavin WQFM, Milwaukee, WI M.D. "A while ago a certain Elektra promo man came by with a copy of the new Metallica LP. I like many other M.D.'s around the country, was skeptical about what I was about to hear, but after I listened to 'Fade to Black' I knew Elktra had something there. Lo and behold 'Fade to Black', after about five weeks of airplay, test in the 80's 18-30 adult and in the 90's 30-35 men. Don't let the name Metallica scare you off."
If you are a true collector, then you should know that this album belongs in your collection. One as flawless as this shouldn't be allowed to slip through your fingers.
