Description
Troppo By Michael Garrick Argo Label. Cat. No. ZDA 163
Matrix No. / Mother / Stamper: Side 1: ZRG-4026-1W / 2D / R Side 2: ZRG-4025-2W / 1 / U
Fairly rare Jazz album that comes in the original Argo poly-lined inner sleeve and original cover. A stunning album if you are a jazz fan that features members of the renowned Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet. It also features the stunning vocals of Norma Winstone, which is a voice you have to hear.
CONDITION
Examined under a strong halogen lamp, side one has a good scattering of sleeve withdrawal marks, some bordering on becoming scratches. Side two has one very light and faint scratch and numerous sleeve withdrawal marks. I have no hesitation in grading both sides as Very Good.
Played on a Project Debut III turntable through a Denon amp and AKG headphones, both sides just have background crackle to varying degrees, which cannot be heard during parts or is very quiet. However, this background crackle is mostly noticeable during the opening track on both sides but it by no means overpowers the music. There are no 'clicks', 'pops', jumps or sticking. The play grade is a very comfortable Very Good
NOTE: Having heard albums from the early 60s that have absolutely no background noise whatsoever I am not one who subscribes to the idea that all albums have background crackle and that it is acceptable to grade records with such background noise as anything better than Very Good.
The cover just has faint creasing and some faint ringwear. The spine is clean and sharp and there are no seam splits or edge wear.
The inner just has some creasing and some ringwear.

OVERALL GRADE (record / cover)
VERY GOOD / EXCELLENT minus.
GRADING GUIDE - IMPORTANT!
I visually examine all records under a strong 35w halogen lamp, which shows up ALL defects.
I strictly grade my records according to the Rare Record Price Guide (RRPG), which, to me, means as follows:
MINT- Must be sealed
NEAR MINT - Totally unmarked, no scratches, not even faint 'hairlines' / sleeve withdrawal marks or any other signs of having been played.
EXCELLENT - No scratches, just signs of having been played, such as the odd faint 'hairline' sleeve withdrawal mark that is barely visible under a strong lamp, or spindle trails on the label.
VERY GOOD - The first mild scratches have begun to appear, but only very, very few.
GOOD - More scratches than Very Good and more severe, but I am confident that the record will play through without skips or sticking and will still provide a good listening experience.
FAIR - The record may not play through properly with a chance of it jumping and / or it will play with significant background noise.
POOR - It definitely won't play without skipping or sticking.
Below Near Mint I will use plus or minus with a grade to highlight fine differences.
COVER GRADES
My cover grades are EXACTLY as stated in Record Collector magazine / RRPG. Therefore, if a cover is defaced, stained or torn it CANNOT grade better than FAIR. Likewise, if any part of the contents are missing it CANNOT grade better than POOR.
All our records are dispatched using stiffeners and card mailers.
