Up for auction is the ultimate prize for any serious Michael Jackson collector: the legendary, cancelled commercial 12" vinyl single of Smile, manufactured in Holland in late 1997.
As all major collectors know, Sony Music cancelled this commercial release at the final moment, ordering nearly the entire pressing to be destroyed just days before hitting the shelves. Only a handful of copies survived, making this one of the rarest and most sought-after physical vinyl records in music history.
This is a 100% GENUINE, GUARANTEED ORIGINAL Epic Records pressing, NOT one of the many counterfeits/bootlegs in circulation.
PROVEN AUTHENTICITY MARKS SHOWN IN PHOTOS:
- Matrix / Runout Codes: Machinely stamped 01 665130 20 1A1 (Side A) and 01 665130 20 1B1 (Side B) in the dead wax (the official Sony Haarlem factory stamps).
- Center Labels: Features the authentic dual-ring indented circles pressed into the paper label (one small inner ring near the center hole, one large outer ring underneath the tracklist).
- Print Quality: Authentic analog offset typography, official BIEM/SACEM logos, and flawless factory label layout.

- Purchased brand-new by the original owner in 1997 and safely stored in a private collection for nearly 30 years. This record has NEVER been played and has never seen a turntable needle, as the owner only listened to the CD version at the time. The vinyl holds a spectacular, pristine, mirror-like factory gloss. Completely scratch-free and untouched. A flawless time capsule.
- PICTURE SLEEVE: VERY GOOD (VG)
- The original "Charlie Chaplin" picture jacket is fully intact and structurally solid with no seam splits. It shows some light surface wear, minor corner/edge scuffing, and slight ringwear from house-moving and general shelf storage over the past three decades. The printing colors and contrast remain sharp and beautiful. (Please see high-resolution photos for exact cosmetic details).
