Description
An original 1st of BB on UK CBS from 1970. Matrix A1/B1/C1/D1. First things first - CBS were quite capable of pressing a great record as this example highlights. The early copies should be pressed heavy - No flimsy whimsy copies as you might find a year or two later. The vinyl comes housed in an original unlaminated gatefold cover printed by E J Day [correct for 1st issue]. We also have both original CBS advertising inner sleeves [correct for 1970]. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) A superb looking copy and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveal a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with slightest deviation in one spot. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. By and large the audio purity is really impressive 95% of the time. The only slightest issue can be traced in the first half of SANCTUARY - in that really low-key incredibly fussy trumpet section. It plays very nice indeed - but don't expect it to play perfectly quiet. Expect a the odd static crackle, or what I would describe as very low-level presence. Nothing remotely nasty - but if you're someone who has extremely low threshold for that sort of thing - it might not quite suit. I got a couple of crackles in the super low-key clarinet warbling during the BB track [v brief]. But by and large this is a really smart little player - consistently very impressive. If you need a clean copy to get the groove - to get the intricacies.. this could well be the one you were looking for. I have to say - I very much liked it. Recommended!
Cover (Vg+) In really nice condition - most examples will usually be knackered by this point in time. But this cover is holding up very nicely. Surfaces and colours are well preserved. You will notice a bit of ring wear back and front. Due to the double LP aspect and lack of lamination this is almost impossible to avoid on an original copy. The interior looks great and doesn't exhibit much sign of ageing. There's a fair bit of edge wear in places and a two inch wear-through at the bottom of the right hand panel. I have tape repaired internally to secure so that it is merely, now, a cosmetic issue. There's a bit of wear on the spine too - but not bad. 90% of the text is still legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inners (Vg+) A bit of ageing and some creasing. No splits.
