Description

Minor Threat - 1st 7” (Dischord #3) TEST PRESSING

Super rare test pressing of the first Minor Threat 7" (Dischord #3).

Suffice it to say, a piece of history.  From Jeff Nelson’s listing of another copy from this batch:

"This test pressing has the first appearance ever of the song "Straight Edge" (the same can be said for the other 7 songs, except none of them became movements!)  This Minor Threat record has 8 songs: "Filler", "I Don't Wanna Hear It", "Seeing Red", "Straight Edge", "Small Man, Big Mouth", "Screaming At A Wall", "Bottled Violence", and "Minor Threat." Produced by Minor Threat, Mixed by Skip Groff. Recorded by Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia (on 4-track tapedeck, in the basement of his house)."

Jeff has more to say in his original listing as well. (Google it or PM me for the link.) It's a great read.

Note that there are a few blemishes on side B (pictured). They only affect "Small man, big mouth" and produce audible clicks (but no skips). I've gotten test pressings from the plant like this myself so it's possible this is how it arrived to Dischord.

A few words on provenance and condition. I bought this record off the wall at Yesterday and Today Records in Rockville, MD around ‘85 and its been in my collection ever since. Besides playing through "Small man, big mouth" to verify that it plays through the surface scratch, it has never been played by me. It's possible it was played previously. If it has, rest assured it was by the band or Don Z. in the service of vetting the mastering. In which case, you've got yourself another bit of history.

According to Jeff Nelson, there are likely no more than 50 in existence.

Due to the value of this record, I'll make sure it's well packed, insured and tracked.  I'm open to an international sale but will have to research the best way to get it to you safely insured and tracked. In that case, wait to pay until we've talked and you have an invoice.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks!
